(14.f) Sorry if its long.
Okay well,I noticed that I sweat sometimes and then it starts to stink now..I asked my parents for deodorant, but they said it's "bad" because it covers your armpit and you can't sweat,etc.etc. I want to use deodorant 'cause I'm worried about school. It's just that they won't let me! They also say like if you use it, then you have to use it more and more and then you might get cancer or whatever at your armpit. What can I do? How do I make them know that I need it? Even my mom uses it sometimes, but then shes like, see even I don't use it alot!
Then I have another issue about my body hair on my arm and my leg.As you see, for PE,I usually have to wear capris or sweat pants, but my gym teacher says I should wear shorts.Well I mean I want to wear shorts on like hot days. But instead I wear capris. But now if I wear capris, you can then see my leg hair.AHEM,once again, I cant shave, wax,or use those lotion/spray to remove my hair!A lot of my classmates don't have hair and they can wear shorts without looking bad.I also have some on my arm.Well its better then my leg.Its much more skinnier, but now my leg hair is more thicker.Well I don't want to shave anyways..I heard waxing hurts..I wanna use that lotion/spray thing. But Since I have bad skin(dry, etc.), my parents say like,"what are you thinking?!?you know you have bad skin,if you do use it then don't tell me when its red or whatever.I won't take you to the doctor, and then starts giving me a lecture.Well none of my parents or aunts have body hair,I'm like the only one. Except my dad has some.BUT NOT A LOT LIKE ME.Well he's a guy so I don't think they should be so caring about it anyways.Well..I'm a girl so I care..Is there any way?!?!?!?!? I really wanna get rid of the hairs on my leg for sure!!
ANY ADVICE, I WOULD APPRICIATE!!! Please help.. Thankss!
I can see why your parents don't want you putting junk on your body, it can cause probs, my parents are kinda the same. BUT!! There is a way! That BOTH you AND your parents will be happy!
There are plenty of healthy deodrants out there! That don't "covers your armpits and you can't sweat". Though they do cover the stink! I wouldn't think most of them stop you from sweating but hey! Sweating is good! It cleanses the body! lol!
I wouldn't worry about the hair on your arms to much, since its "skinnier", with the leg hair I'm not for sure, I stopped shaving my legs, it took to much time and was a HUGE bother!! Though my leg hair isn't really noticable, slightly dark and thicker then it was when I was younger, not bad though. Has anyone ever commented on your legs? I'm not for sure what exactly to do about your legs that your parents will like, except maybe some herb/vitamin or some other natural thing you can take that will anturally reduce the hair growing/being so think.
And heres another place with stuff on sale! lol! :P
*Oh! I'm sorry! Did I not post the link for the on sale stuff?! :S SORRY! Here it is!! [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

And about the hair dilemma, I'd start shaving and making sure I use lotion afterwards.
Your parents can't do anything to stop you after you've already gotten rid of the hair. And hair growing back thicker is a myth, it just seems thicker because the razorcuts the hair at an angle. And if you shave regularly, you don't have to worry about it much anyway.

And while you try to persuade your parents maybe you could carry moist towels and everytime you use the lady's room wipe off the sweat or something. (i no it sounds weird but its better then nothing) You could also maybe ask your doctor or nurse to talk to your parents that it is a good idea to wear deodorant.
and with the hairy legs, there is an electric shaver that you cold just easily glide up and down your legs without it hurting, and also after you shave what helps is to put any kind of lotion on so your legs are smooth. you should talk to your parents that you are growing up and you are in charge of your body. get them to talk to your doctor and make an agreement.
uisforukelele answered Tuesday August 28 2007, 7:20 pm: hmm, about the deodorant thing, that is just really weird of your parents to say that. of course deodorant doesn't make it so you "can't sweat"... that's what an anti-perspirant is. most deodorants have anti-perspirants, some don't though. it should say on the packaging. anti-perspirants are to keep you from sweating, because there is a certain "b.o." smell, and a certain "sweat" smell. the deodorant covers up the b.o., which is a lifesaver for society today. can you imagine if nobody ever wore deodorant? the world would smell like a cow pasture. also, deodorant isn't going to give you cancer. so i don't really know why they're arguing with you because all of their claims are just dumb. here's what i would do. depending on your living situation, if you have a grocery store or something within quick walking distance from your house, while your parents are out for a few minutes, you could walk there or ride a bike and get what you need. here's something else... ask a friend to buy it for you. explain about your parents and their weirdness, and your friend will definitely get you some! i know i would if somebody asked me. i have to go, but about the body hair: i read a thing on msnbc.com where it is proven that people really don't notice leg hair on other people. you could also have your friend buy you a razor/whatever, but that would be obvious. if you have a friend buy you deodorant, keep it hidden if it makes your parents angry that you have it. if your parents are concerned about your dry skin, do they know that momst razors have a moisturizing strip? do they know about a thing called lotion? bring this stuff up again, and be kind of polite, and if they say no, have somebody else get it for you. do you have older siblings? they could get stuff for you too. well, i have to go, good luck :) [ uisforukelele's advice column | Ask uisforukelele A Question ]
