This is a curiosity question: Lets say an individual decides he/she no longer wants to go to a doctor that they have gone to in the past (or hasn't gone to that doctor in many years) what does the doctors office do with those files. The files that I am talking about are the ones that the doctor uses in the examining room which has all the patients info

They still had my files. So I'm guessing they keep them for a while. They might throw them away at some point but my doctor kept mine for 3 years while I wasn't seeing him.
