The best thing to do is think of about seven people (either people you know in real life or celebrities) whose style you really like and admire. Think of reasons to describe each of those people's style, and pick the three words that come up most.
Think of these words as ways to describe the style you'd like to have, and then look through magazines and on the internet and cut out clothes and accessories you like that fit those three words.
Stick them in a book and you'll probably soon start to see a pattern in the clothes you like.
Then, go shopping (take the book with you) and pick out clothes you like that fit those three words.

In my closet, i have a lot of preppy clothes, fancy, sporty etc. just like you. But anyways, that doesn't mean that you have to choose one of them. Just find a store that has a style that you like. for me its-
Preppy- American eagle, aeropostle, hollister, abercrombie and fitch, etc.
not the usual teen clothes (fancy/clubbing clothes) - Von maurs, Deb, forever 21, rainbow, wetseal
sporty- pac sun, footlocker, Adidas,
so yeah, just because you love all of these types of styles, doesn't mean you have to pick 1. When you go shopping one day, just think of what kind of style you would like to go shopping for. Then go to those stores that carry that style.
If it helps, you could also go to department stores, they have a various types of styles.

Pick out several items that they are wearing (in magazines etc) then cut out those items and start to put together a profile that you think would suit you. Look through some catalogues and cut out pictures of clothes that you could adapt by adding your own flair - for instance buttons/pins/sew-ons etc. Finally, cut out a picture of your face and try mixing and matching those styles that have taken your fancy. By playing around with various styles you may hit on one that is totally you. All the best. [ Elcee's advice column | Ask Elcee A Question ]
