Addiction to Sims 2

Question Posted Wednesday August 22 2007, 9:41 pm

i've always loved the sims. i heard about it first a few years ago, from my friend. I thought it sounded really cool. My sister played it at her friend's house and loved the game too, so my dad bought us Sims Deluxe, about a month before EA Games released The sims 2. we were both addicted, mostly me, to the game. then not too long later, our interests drifted apart, and we stopped playing the game, and eventually it got missing. since it got missing, I've wanted Sims 2. Finally, three days ago, my mom gave in and bought us The Sims 2. Since then I swear I've been really addicted to the game. I play it mostly all day and stay up late playing it. I eat and etc, but not as much. like it doesn't dawn on me that I'm hungry for a while.. I've only eaten 2 meals an apple, yogurt, and three cups of water today. my school starts soon and i really want to exercise to be in shape since I'm taking dance lessons and playing soccer and I haven't really been exercising much in the summer. i tell myself to stop.. but i cant help it. its hard for me to even do my summer reading (required) because my mind drifts to Sims 2.. I dont even leave the game till my sister makes me get off so she can play, and a lot of times i just watch her game and wait for her to get off so I can play again.. gosh i'm hopeless. i want to not be addicted to this game for the sake of school starting in about 2 weeks, and for my health. because I've also been feeling.. out of shape lately, tired.. my hands kinda hurt, and sometimes i even get nauseous. and sometimes I get kind of "OCD actions" and since I've gotten addicted to the sims 2, its increased. i feel like.. i have to take deep breaths, i have to check all the doors (that they are locked) before I sleep, and little mind things I have to do.. I used to get it mildly but since my addiction, its increased. and not only all that, i've gotten out of touch from my friends for the past few days. i feel really bad about it and i will try my hardest to get over this addiction if you can help me. i dont want to stop playing forever.. I just want to like control the amount I play.. don't just tell me to play for like 2 hours a day, because its easier said than done. give me an easier way for me to get out of this habit. thanks alot! :)

wow well i sorta had an addiction like that too but it's not as much as yours. i usually played sims from after lunch til dinner time which is between 6 or 7 hours straight and i wouldn't even realize how much time passed by. i'm not exactly sure how you can stop because you sound really really addicted to it. you can try, even though its hard, say after you shower or eat, read that book that you're required to read even just one or two chapters, anything that doesn't invovle playing sims. then the next day try to read more and more chapters. another way is timing yourself, if you have a timer or an alarm clock (i'm sure you have a cell phone so you can use that too) & say you start playin around 1:00pm set an alarm for 4:00pm or less, just don't over do. & when the alarm rings IMMEDIATELY save your game, later on you'll find it more easier to do. So now you'r probably wondering what to do after that, well you actually answered it already. You said you feel out of shape so you can start working out and stuff, keep in mind those dance lessons you wanna do and soccer too to keep you motivated. You can also call a friend and talk to them on the phone or meet up somewhere, away from your computer. If you haven't seen some of your favorite shows on tv or are missing them you can start watching them too. Just take it easy day by day and control yourself. & since you have a sibling you two can do things with each other, anything that doesn't involve sims. One thing my friend and her sister did was blast the music in their room and dressed up all goofy and made a routine to a dance and i was video taping them and we put it on youtube. haha you can try dancing too you know like get yourself ready for your dance lessons or go outside and play soccer to practice. hope i really helped and i wish you the best of luck!

<b>I had the EXACT same problem about two years ago...the sims 2 use to be my life and i didnt ge tout much because of it, i didnt really ahve a social life either, its all i ever did! All summer and let me tell you sittin around doing nothing 24-7 is not healthy! The only reason i stopped playing it is because it broke and there was something wrong with it..it kept freezing and my computer had too many downloads for it that it crashed too and i am sooo thankful that it broke! If it didnt i'd still be addicted today and wouldn't have a social life, I am 15 now and my years at school are very important now so its good and im older and got over the silly game. It is a really good game but all i can say is if u play on it then you will say ill only play for 2 hours but you get carried away and say maybe another two.. i dont know what to tell you because its you who plays the game and only you can control yourself by not playing it. You may be addicted but you can control yourself..honestly, i would advise not to play it everyday and have like a day or two for it when you have no plans with anyone or just not play it at all. Thats what helped me and now i dont really care about it anymore. Life is much more better than a game. x
