Snakes

Question Posted Tuesday August 21 2007, 7:48 pm

14/f
i really want a snake. i love love love animals.

what kind of snake is best for me and if you have tips that would be great.

im going to wait like a month or two to make sure i really want it so i won't buy one and like not want it a month later. but what kind should i get.

i want one that ....
-doesn't get very big. preferably under two feet. and will stay that way.
-has a good temperament (doesn't bite & friendly)
-semi-easy to take care of.
-i won't have to feed mice. something i can feed worms/guppies/small fish/or bugs.

please only answer if you have had snake experiences (IE. you have/had one/friend has one/work at a pet store, etc.)

thank you =)

I always wanted a snake, too, but I never got one because I couldn't bare to feed it mice. And everyone told me that ALL snakes have to eat mice eventually. But then I found a snake at the pet store called a Green Snake, and they told me he would be okay will only eating crickets. I've had him a year now, fed only crickets, and he's fine. He will only get about 2 feet long. And he's super cute! The only drawback to Green Snakes is that they're really fast and not very easily tamed. So you have to patient with them, because they're not really calm and docile like corn snakes, boas, etc. Mine has finally gotten used to being held, but it took a while. Oh, and if you get one of these, be sure to give him lots of branches and things to climb on, because in the wild they live in trees.

I have a corn snake. We actually got the corn snake because it has a very good temper and corn snakes are less likley to bite. It hasn't bitten anyone. It probably will grow over 2 feet but then again, most snakes will. It's very easy to take care of but you have to make sure that you're holding it a lot. If you don't hold a snake, that's when they get mean. We tried feeding my snake small fish and it just wouldn't eat them, it only eats mice. But, all snakes are different. I would highly recommend a corn snake though. Oh and an albino corn snake is one of the cutest snakes I've ever seen. It's actually a pink color! Hope I helped and let me know what you decide. :]

Ball Python's are what is common among owning a snake, which i have one. I don't hold it much, that's why i need to get rid of it. Other than taking care of it you'll need to water, spray the snake with water,&& scoop his poop out of the habitat. I don't know what kind of snake doesn't eat mice, but if there was one you probably won't be able to own one. My snake is nice, even though it tried to bite me 2 day's after i got it. But other than that i guess ball pythons are the nicest...:] good luck:]
