I want a truck when i get my license. I dont want a huge one, or a small one. I want a medium sized truck. Something built in the USA. And i want it to be one of those trucks that wouldn't be squashed in an accident-something strong/sturdy. Right now im thinking about something from Chervolet,GMC,or Ford. Right now mainly Chevys'.
Any advice is helpful.
Thanks in advance.
but the fact is fords are great vehicles as long as you buy a full size pickup with a V8. anything less and you're left with a pile of junk known as the ranger. because the ranger has terrible resale value, it's not a bad car, but just sells for cheap, and resales for cheap. and most people don't want to keep their first car after about 5 years anyways, so i'm just looking out for you financially. so if you go ford go for an F150 with the V8.
next on the block. chevrolet. they make good quality trucks and i could see an S10 or colorado or silverado lasting you a lifetime if you maintain it properly. the problem therein is, is the fact that with any vehicle you're going to have to maintain things, take care of things, and make sure it's all running fine. but good thing you're going american because parts are cheap. but i'm gonna suggest the same as with ford. go for a V8 or don't go at all.
but why haven't you looked at the dodge dakota? the dakota has an available V8 option, isn't a full size pickup, and chrysler's reliability record at current is top notch, plus it's american. i say give the dodge dakota a look. [ orphans's advice column | Ask orphans A Question ]
WittyUsernameHere answered Tuesday August 14 2007, 12:04 am: If you are die hard about a chevy or a ford you want to get one made in the 80s or before thats been well taken care of.
If you are getting anything 90 or newer I would reccomend honda, toyota, or jeep.
Jeep has a decent matinence record and dodge slightly worse, anything Japanese will last past 150k miles, but fords and chevy's of any modern kind tend to start having problems around 60k miles and not stop.
Napalm350z answered Monday August 13 2007, 11:54 pm: i would definitely recomment chevrolet or gmc. i have a 1/2 ton S-10 that is as old as i am and runs almost like new. it seems like there are alot more old chevys than fords on the road... Ford trucks aren't reliable and I would know since I grew up around cars my WHOLE life (Dad owns a dealership and is a major car freak). Chevrolet is definately your best bet- strong, sturdy, and any size (for the most part). Congrats on getting your license :) and I know you'll make a smart choice and go with a Chevy (Silverado!).
