chewing sounds

Question Posted Monday August 13 2007, 11:52 am

I dont know what is it, but i cant stand the sound of people chewing. Especially my mom. When people are around me, i cant help but focus on the sound of them chewing and it drives me absolutely nuts. I just want to like scream. What can i do to stop this? Like i said, its especially my mom, so its not like i can just get up and walk away.

What you do, is imagine in your head that you've taken ductape and taped your mother's mouth mut. I mean shut. It works everytime. *buhdumtssh!*

OMG finally someone who knows how i feel!
I HATE the sound of people chewing, like I literally can feel myself twitching because I just want to scream and slap something so bad!
At my house, my sister and my mom both make kind of gross noises chewing, so I always turn the radio on during dinner. That really helps, and as long as you have music that everyone can agree on, it works.
I haven't really found any way to stop being so affected by it, but sometimes it helps to just close your eyes and count to ten while breathing heavily, because then you have a little while where you can start fresh and try to block it out of your brain.
Some people are just really sensitive to noise, but i'm hoping it goes away as you get older.
try the music, and I know that I usually just dart my eyes at my mom and sister every so often until they get it and try to chew a little quieter, but that rarely works

goodluck

same with my sister. i say you ignore it. and yeah you chewing sounds even worse than them probabaly. because people like you usually try and chew as quietly so it doesnt piss other people off, but that makes even more noise. it could be something that needs therapy. doubt it though. so yeah, ignore and focus on something else. have a conversation with someone. Or if you're watching tv, turn it up.

concentrate on your own chewing noises, there probably even grosser.
Or just count to 20 and concentrate on something else in the room then the chewing.
And maybe start a nice conversation with someone so you stop thinking about the chewing
