Belly Button

Question Posted Wednesday August 8 2007, 5:40 pm

Hey...today is my birthday (16th)..and my parents said i could probably get my belly button pierced for it.

I found a trustworthy place to get it done...but rumor has gone around that theres a new law in Pennsylvania that you have to be 18 (even if you have your parents with you) to get it done. Has anyone else heard this.

Also...if any of you have yours pierced...could you give me any disadvantages of getting it done...? I am active (soccer and basketball)...so will it get infected constantly?

Thanks!!

In Pennsylvania you have to be the minimum of 16 yrs. old to get any piercings/ or tattoos. But you can get this done, as long as you have your parent/ guardian only to sign for the piercing and you MUST bring your i.d. or birth certificate or proof. No one, other than your parents/ guardians are allowed to consent to this. That means, no brothers/sisters/friends who are 18 or older. If they are other than your parents you must bring, documented papers or emancipation papers. But To be sure this is correct you may want to ask a reliable source.

You have to keep it cleaned, cleanse it out with alcohol after you get it done, but do not remove it. But if you play a sport, and you already have it done, I suggest you take it out, ONLY for that time being, and then put it back in.
But you may want to look at the disadvantages before you get it done. If you take out constantly it can get infected. Playing sports, it can get ripped out and can leave a scar. And it takes nearly up to a yr. before it heals.
But if you be careful, really careful you won't have any disadvantages at all :) Hope I helped.

I've got mine done and I'm only 14. My mom had to come with of course, and the guy asked for my i.d. but I didn't have any form of i.d. He let me slide so thats a plus. But I'm from Illinois so I don't know much about Pennsylvania laws.

I like having my belly button pierced, its cute and all its just that for sports it can be a nusence. It probably is different for the sport though. See Im in cheerleading and I have to bend backwards, tuck into a ball, flip, jump.. do a bunch of weird positions.. also catching people and flying because it can easily be ripped out. I would think that soccer and basketball might be not as rough on your piercing as cheerleading, but you still might get it bumped into and psuhed against. Eventually getting it bumped won't really hurt but for the first month, week, whatever.. it might hurt. I don't think it'll get infected if you clean your body. I didn't do anything really special to mine, I just cleaned around it with Lever 2000 soap. Going in hot tubs, pools, & baths help clean it out. Hope this helped!

hello my name is chira im 15. i thik the age problem in some places are true but you might want to call and ask before going. and if they wont let you because of your age call and find a place that will. my friend had hers done and the professinal gave her an ointment to put on so it wont get infected. and if you take it out too soon it might heal up and youll have to get it done again. so just leave it in for a few weeks.

later,

chira
