How do I make new friends in a different group?

Question Posted Friday August 3 2007, 11:59 am

Ok...Im going through this stage where I want to meet new friends and kind of start High School with new people. I want to make new friends and be in a more popular group. I am kind of shy and I need to know how to get out of the shyness and how to make new friends. I am also kind of like a sporty kind of girl. I would like some help on becoming more "girly" and less "tomboy_ish." Thank you for all your help!

Its okay to play sports. nothing bad with that, popular or/and girly girls play sports. Well if your trying to be more girly-ish, then try some make up, and some more stylish clothing. =)

Hey that is really great you are doing that! I also went through same thing. I am not the popularest person nor even that popular but I do know lot of people and have lot of friends that are in different group and stuff. I also dressed tomboy ish and not girly.

Most importantly, you dont want to make a drastic change, or many people will think you are a poser or not being yourself. So just try with cute tanktop and cami and then move onto adding some cute accesories like beaded necklaces and headbands and purse.

Also to make new friends in different group, it might be easier for you since you are sporty. Definetly join a sports team in your school. That will definetly make you more open. As cliche as it sounds, smile goes a long way. Not a fake looking one of course, just a genuine smile will be nice. It will make you more approachable. Also it will be nice to compliment people that are GENUINE. Don't go around saying "OMG i totally love your hair, your clothes, your shoes like yeahhh!!" That is major dont. But if you see something you really like, and she's not really your friend, it will be nice for her to hear and then it can lead on to you asking her where she got it and more conversational topics open up.

If you need more help let me know :D

that's so cool. Well first off, try to take 1 day without thinking about sports or working out etc. That's what I do. Then start off by having fun... dress up in clothes, even if you think you look ridiculous in them. Then start putting make-up on, then do your hair etc.

Practice makes Perfect.

Invite a friend, for extra fun. Then go shopping together, a movie, a park, entertainment place etc.

When School starts, still keep in touch with your old friends, but talk to new people. If you are shy, just gather a bunch of courage and talk to people. Don't even care what people think, someone might actually think you look cool and fun and wants to hang out with you.

Just be yourself around them. be a social butterfly! Talk about things to people. First days of school are always about socializing and meeting new people. Just find someone you would like to be friends with and go up to them and introduce yourself. Soon enough you'll get their email address and start talking to them and have them as your best friend.

It just takes time.

be creative and have ambition to do this.
