Have had yeast infection for last 7 years.

Question Posted Friday July 27 2007, 3:35 am

I want to know if a yeast infection is really dangerous and if it can kill you. I have had a yeast infection for the last seven years.
It goes away w/ my menstrual and then comes back. I do not take birth control and I am not a diabetic. I have tried all the creams and diflucan also. Nothing worked. And right now I don't have med. insurance. Will the local hospital treat me? I don't want the infection to spread to my intestines. I am 28 years old and I am afraid of this.

As Razhie says, you do need to see a doctor about this. It's not dangerous so much as debilitating in the long run.

In the meantime, try avoiding sugar, spicy foods, coffee, tea and onions. You can also try acidophilus and aloe vera tablets or juice, all of which you can get from a health shop. These introduce healthy bacteria back into the system, stabalises the levels and helps to counteract the yeast overgrowth.

It is a sign of an inbalance so you do need to look at the causes and any underlying health issues. Dealing with those should help to rid your body of the yeast infection. It is very unlikely to go away without help.

I understand that medical insurance can be an issue in the US, but this is something that you really need to try to resolve, for your own sake.

You need to go see your doctor. You would probably be better to go to a family doctor or GP then to an emergency room.

Long Term yeast infections will probably not kill you, but it will continue to weaken you and might be a symptom of several illnesses like fibromyalgia. Yeast can spread not only to your intestines but your lungs and sinuses as well.

It's good that looked into diflucan, but if that didn't work for you there is still more a doctor can help you. Yeast infections are a response to a weakened immune system. If you have some sort of illness causing it, you want to make sure your doctor can identify that, if not they can at least recommend some life style changes that might help.

There are also supplements that can at least help you *feel* better in the short term. Molybdenum is a mineral that can help you feel more alert (yeast infections can cause drowsiness and give you trouble focusing) and it supposedly can help with the itching too.

I've heard of some diets as well that supposedly can help, but all of that sort of things are things you could ask a doctor.
