Question Posted Thursday July 19 2007, 8:28 am

I hate my ipod!!!! I have a black nano (the old one) and it is 2GB, and normally they're suppose to hold 500 songs, but mine changes the amount it can hold everytime I put new songs on. like it went from 479 to 432 and now it's at 395 and it's sooo annoying! Does anyone know why it does this, & how I can stop it?

well 2GB isnt saying that it holds exactly 500 songs. it means it holds and average of 500. like songs that are average lengths 2-3 minutes. some songs are long like 4-6 minutes so it depends on how long the songs are.

it doesnt go by the songs it goes by how much space is lat if you have a really long song like 5 minutes long thats like having 2 songsbecause there based on songs hat are only like 3 minutes long. Just delete the old ones you dont liten to much. then add the ones you really like.

The number goes down every time you add a song to your ipod. Think about it. If you add 50 songs onto your ipod.. the number should go down to 450. If you add 100 songs it should go down to 400. Etc..

Don't trust the numbers too much though. Your ipod is suppose to hold 2000 megabytes of music. Not 500 songs.

My little brother I-Pod did the exact same thing!
He took it back to the shop he bought it in and they said that it wouldn't always be able to hold 500 songs because some files are bigger than others, so if the songs were short and sstandard quality then he would get more than 500 but if they were long tracks and of a really high quality then you will not be able to fit the full 500 on there, if you have any problems with it then just take it back to where you bought it and they will check it out for you but this is more than likely what's happened.

It is because it is based on two minute songs, or three minute songs. Basically, if you have some 4 minute songs, or longer, it takes up more space to hold those- causing it to hold less songs.
Try to get songs under 2 and a half minutes.
