what do you need for tryouts?
simply running shoes, and gym shorts. ( less-needed items are water bottle, underarmour, and a nice pair of thick socks :)
how long does the season last?
3 months from the start of school (or sometimes, cc begins during the summer) to winter, and the start of winter track (3 months)
and what do you usually do during practices?
you run, usually 3-8 miles, (8 towards the end of the season)

just make sure you are wearing shorts that are comfortable and like a tank top nothing to hot and sneakers that arent like dcs make sure they tie tight and you basically run like the whole time its not really like try-outs caz everyonemakes the team.
hope it helps.

you will get a lot better answers by asking a coach or somebody on the team at your school, but this is what i can come up with:
what do you need for tryouts? as far as abilities: you should probably be able to run a mile in like 8-9 minutes. that is considered average. as far as material things: running shoes, shorts, t-shirt, water bottle, hair tie... et cetera.
how long does the season last? i am pretty sure it lasts during most of the first semester. people who do cross country in the fall usually do track in the spring.
what do you usually do during practices? i think you run a few miles, depending on what event you do. apparently there is a trail through the woods by my school and freshman girls run like maybe 3-5 miles a day? also, be prepared to have in school and after school practices. i would imagine that you stretch and stuff and then mostly run. i doubt that you would do weights or something, unless you were in offseason.
i hope this answered your question, but i think you could probably get more information from somebody at your school :) ]
