thunderstorm

why is it bad to be on the comp when there is a thunderstorm goin on?would anything happn to you or jus your comp?

Well, it depends on if there is a big power line close to your house. If there is, you should most likely turn off your computer until the thunderstorm is off, or else if if a lighting strike hit one of the power lines, that could end up turning off your computer, and everything else in your house that is powered by electricity

I just wanted to add that they are right in saying surge protectors only protect so much.
Last summer, we had lightning strike our home and though our computer was still functional, for some time the screen color was green and pink all the time.
I wouldn't say you should have to unplug everything, but be sure it is turned off. If it isn't using power to run, then the surge protector will keep it from frying.

Yes most definitely and i unplug mine too. any lighting strike to power lines or even the phone lines can fry your computer.

Most surge protectors only stop up to 150,000 volts. lightening is usually much more than that and will allow the excess voltage to leak past them.

Also if your hand happens to be on the mouse or keyboard and a strike does hit the powerlines then computer, your going to get a nasty shock.
