I'm thirteen and I guess you could say i'm Catholic. My family goes to church every week, but I don't even feel good when I go. I feel like it's all a big lie, God and Jesus and Heaven and Hell. I mean, I think to myself, it seems kind of unreal that when you die you go to this wonderful place with God and if you don't follow all the exact rules of christianity, you go to hell with evil Satan. So you are telling me if I tell a little lie, or say "Oh my god" once, I have to burn in the depths of hell in my after life, if I don't go tell some priest all of my business and ask god to forgive me? Don't tell me that isn't true, because the 10 comandments say that. That brings me to hell. Out of the billions of people on earth, a fiery, hot place may not be scary to some. Maybe sitting in a white room with a set of rainbow blocks infront of you for eternity is hell, not being able to do anything else. But then, all of a sudden out of nowhere I get scared that that might be real, and all of a sudden I believe in god again. Can anyone help me out here? What should I believe in my situation. OH! And if you give me some quote from the bible to explain your answer, I swear I will ignore it because I can't stand that.

SECOND thing. you MUST be baptised in the name of jesus christ. only 2 things you need. now after you get all that done, you start readin the bible, and seeing what it says in there. the book of matthew is a good place to start. and my belief is the priest has nothin to with God forgiving you. nothin. now you also gotta ask yourself this, when you do die. and you stand before God himself, and he reads everything you've done in your life to you... you gotta answer for everything he says. so to be on the safe side.....you should go with God. hope this helps.
Indigo1208 answered Tuesday July 24 2007, 1:34 pm: First off - there is no definitive answer to your question. Ultimately you will decide what you really believe over the course of your life however, I do believe that there is something after we die. To explain my full beliefs here would take forever and sound more like I was preaching but if you want to ask me anything then feel free.
I have always believed that if you try to be a good person then that is what matters. Everyone in their life will "sin" however, I do not believe that it is essential to go to church and confess these sins to a priest or whoever. Is it right to say that only a select few can talk to God/Allah???? I think that if you know that you have done something wrong then you can ask the being that you believe in for forgiveness or tell them that you are sorry!!! I don't believe that God/Allah etc would turn his back on anyone.
I think that God is all around us and even in ourselves and free will makes us who we are.
If when you die you are truly sorry for anything that you may have done in your life then I think that will be good enough for God/Allah etc.
It doesn't matter which religion you follow, I believe that every religion teaches the same thing when stripped back to its fundamental message: be a good person, be good to one another and life a happy life and to say that if you have done just one bad thing in your life, like tell a little lie, that you will not be forgiven and go to hell is just cruel!
Amarete answered Tuesday July 17 2007, 7:26 am: I can understand your situation, because mine is pretty much identical. Both my parents are Christian (Baptist, not Catholic), but I'm not sure about how true the religion is either. I'm not going to try to convince you that Christianity isn't true and why I don't think it is, but hopefully I can help you make up your mind a little better.
First off, if the only thing keeping you faithful to God is a fear of Hell being real, then you may never truly believe no matter what you do. Many would disagree with me, but I say that that's ok. There are hundreds of thousands of religions in the world; Christianity is just the most popular right now. Do some research into other religions and see if there is one that seems to feel right to you. In the end, you may not find one that fits. Christianity may turn out to be what you choose to believe in after all. But don't worry too much about it right now. You are 13; you have plenty of time to think about what you believe and what religion you are. It may take years for you to find faith in God or find another religion for yourself. Just keep searching.
Most important, don't force a religion upon yourself or let someone else force it on you. This is a decision which concerns not only your life, but also your soul, and only you can make this choice. [ Amarete's advice column | Ask Amarete A Question ]
summerluvin09 answered Monday July 16 2007, 11:59 pm: i'm not Catholic, so the views might be different, but it was always my understanding that you just have to believe in him. you don't have to be perfect and if you ask for forgiveness, he will forgive you. no one knows what hell is like (but either way, i doubt anyone likes burning for eternity).
MsMonet answered Monday July 16 2007, 7:03 pm: 1st of all you need to read your bible and quotes won't hurt. your parents need to take the time to explain that if you pray almost everyday and ask Him to forgive you for your sins he will. also He is a jelous God and doesn't like anyone before Him. Think how do you wake up every morning. Nope not your mom or dad or the devil GOD wakes you up. and think you are a Christian and you are still living and ppl who have died and don't even know God guess where they are going. I am telling you God doesn't give you 1-10 chances think thousands a year. And Also God doen't want His children to have fear but FAITH so think about this before you worship any other Thank you [ MsMonet's advice column | Ask MsMonet A Question ]
WittyUsernameHere answered Monday July 16 2007, 5:44 pm: You sound alot like me.
The first thing you need to learn is this. You will never be sure.
I believe in God. I believe in God because I have had a few moments in my life where I truly felt touched by him. I believe in God because something about it just seems right, and whatever exists up there, the "Jesus and God" model feels correct to me.
I dont buy into 95% of the rest of christianity. If you want an explanation on that one, just go find "Jesus camp" the movie. Try not to hate your own religion too much afterwards.
Back to my original topic, you are never going to know for sure. I believe my life has been touched by God. I could be delusional. I am intelligent enough to acknowledge the fact that I am far from perfect, and perhaps I just made it up in my head for comfort.
But in the end, I believe because of what I have felt. And if Im wrong, what does it hurt?
Though, on the subjet of Heaven and Hell, most of the things your family teaches you are designed more to make you afraid to do certain things for earthly reasons than for divine will.
The church still has rules against birth control.
Why?
Becuase the way a church expands is by gaining new members. Its easier to have people born in and indoctrinated from youth than to convince adults.
Give it time, too. Youre still a kid, you arent going to be able to figure everything out right now, as much as you might like to. Its not important to have all the answers now, its more important just to set a goal of working towards finding some of them out for yourself at some point. Glitch5000 answered Monday July 16 2007, 5:41 pm: Ok so I'm going to say this the easiest way possible because it's kinda a broad topic. So pretty much the way to go to heaven is to have faith in God and to know that Jesus loves you and everyone. The ten commandments don't say anything about saying things like that. They're rules for being a more faithful Christian. If you believe in God and know that he forgives you for things you know you did wrong, you'll go to heaven.
