Now these songs are country songs, but they deal with heaven, so you may not want them if he isn't at all religious. One is

"When I Get Where I'm Going"
BRAD PAISLEY (feat. Dolly Parton)

When I get where I'm going
On the far side of the sky
The first thing that I'm gonna do
Is spread my wings and fly

I'm gonna land beside a lion
And run my fingers through his mane
Or I might find out what it's like
To ride a drop of rain

[Chorus]
Yeah when I get where I'm going
There'll be only happy tears
I will shed the sins and struggles
I have carried all these years
And I'll leave my heart wide open
I will love and have no fear
Yeah when I get where I'm going
Don't cry for me down here

I'm gonna walk with my grand daddy
And he'll match me step for step
And I'll tell him how I missed him
Every minute since he left
Then I'll hug his neck

[Repeat chorus]

So much pain and so much darkness
In this world we stumble through
All these questions I can't answer
So much work to do

But when I get where I'm going
And I see my maker's face
I'll stand forever in the light
Of his amazing grace
Yeah when I get where I'm going
There'll be only happy tears
Hallelujah
I will love and have no fear
When I get where I'm going
Yeah when I get where I'm going

IT's a really good song anf helped me through some of my harder times.

I'd put a bunch of his favorite [kinda upbeat] songs on there. A lot of songs that are like what you described, they make you feel worse right after someone dies- I found this out the hard way. Make him a happy playlist for now, and just tell him striaght up that you're there for him, and that you love him. It's the best thing to hear. Don't be all "I'm so sorry" every three seconds- it reminds him of what happened. Again, coming from someone who knows what it's like to lose someone close.

If you want songs that are about death.dying/things like that, use songs like Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton and Radios in Heaven by Plain White T's. Christmas music makes me upset these days- too hard to explain. Songs affect people different ways.

If you REALLY wanted to do something nice, go for a walk with him, or just hang out together somewhere, and talk about ANYTHING but his mother [unless he wants to but I doubt it]. It really helps. Oh and go to the wake and the funeral with him. He could use the support.

I believe that Drive by incubus would be a good one. It would address his fears and how you will always be there for him.

Also don't be that note- by scene aesthetic.

I'm sorry I don't know more.
