I am considering taking a jazz class during fall. A few years ago, i took about 1 year of beginning jazz and i took ballet when i was very little (if that even matters). I'm wondering if i should because #1, i'm not too flexible, and #2, i'm not too skinny...i'm not fat, i just don't have that really tall and slender body type. The other option is hip hop...i've taken 2 years of that. But I want to get back into jazz because i like the more lyrical style it has. So, my question is...which dance class should i take? Would jazz not be right for a person like me?

(unless you were older and trying out for some company, but thats another story) if you like jazz, you should definitely do it. i take it, and i love it. i'm pretty flexible, but it really doesn't have to do with jazz. i'd say that's more ballet. and since you've already taken hip hop for 2 years, it would be nice to try something new. i think you'd like it, and if not you could always go back to taking what's comfortable to you

As for jazz, even if it is for the more slender, that doesn't mean it's not right for you. You may have to work a bit harder at it, but for the most part, you shouldn't have a problem. No one's automaticlly flexible. After awhile you'll become more and more flexible, you have to work up to it! For example, each morning try to touch your toes, and you will find that you can go down father and father :D
