writing songs.

Question Posted Monday July 9 2007, 7:37 pm

To make a long story short, I really want to write my own songs. The lyrics are not much of a problem, however, the melody is a different story. I've been playing the piano for seven years, but I can't seem to figure out how to put chords together well. Does anyone have any tips on how to write a melody? I'm a little overwhelmed.

15/f if that helps.

I write music myself and I find that the easiest way to get a melody is to get a sound in your head and kind of play around with it on the piano until it sounds right...I know it seems odd I guess but it really is the best way to get the melody you're looking for...

study and play the chords in christian hymns.

see which chords you like and write it down into your notes.

then tweak them a little.
