Question Posted Monday July 9 2007, 1:44 pm

hi, im really upset and i've cried for ages over this im turning 14 in exactly 2 weeks, this is long right basically i havent started my period my boobs are growing and are a fair size, i've got lots of pubic hair on my vagina and armpits thats normal. I'm worried about the period thing will it ever start? I masturbated with proper dirty sticks and unclean pens will this affect my period and also i don't do much sports apart from athletics once a week in school as part of PE but i'm quite energetic and lively. I'm so scared i really don't know what to do, my sister who is now 17 started hers at the age of 13 and 3 months i don't know about my mum and i can't talk to them or any doctors what should i do? I want to say thank you for everyone who helps me out with advice and please even if i have 50 answers please still write in thanks a lot.

Hey:)

Okay just calm down a bit, firstly you WILL start your period, maybe soon or maybe in a year or so, there's nothing wrong with you. A good thing is your boobs are growing which are a sign of oestrogen levels increasing (when i started my period i went up two bra sizes!). I was just like you at 13 because everyone had started so i was like ARGH i'm never going to start and i cried and cried. Then when i was 14 and 2 months i started and my first thoughts? 'Why did i ever wish for this to happen:|!?' 2 days of hot water bottles and painkillers followed by more stomach pain and boobs that killed when i did sport, how could i have wished this i thought lol. I do understand you though as i was so scared when it hadn't come and i was constantly worried and stressing out about it. The best thing i did? Calmed down and tried to forget about it, as my doctor told me if you put your body into stress your hormones will go up and down and your period won't come until you calm down a bit, but it will come. The unclean pens etc won't have any effect on your period so don't worry although i highly recommend you don't do it as you'll cause yourself thrush and discomfort:). Obviously it's good to keep a balanced diet and exercise to keep a good weight as being under weight and overweight can affect your periods and hormones. 13/14 is the main time for hormones to jump up and down and it's the worst time for irregular periods and no periods atall as there's too much going on in your body to function everything properly. Really however hard it seems and i know i'm being a hypocrite as i was just like you, just don't panic and try and forget about it til it happens. Just to clear your mind though if the time comes where the period is showing no signs of coming and you're really stressed out and upset, go see the doctor and they can give you the pill to stablize your hormones and start your periods so really there's ways of starting them if they don't come. But i'm pretty much certain yours will come and you'll regret wishing for them lol! You're only 13/14 you have loads of time, enjoy it:)
Hope that helped you a bit:)

First of all yes it will start. I am 13/f and my mom started her's at 12, and I was always wondering would it ever start, and yes by the way I have had mine for about a few months. Your period starting date is not always going to be the same as your mom's or anyone else's. But about the dirty pen thing, if you masturbate with dirty stuff then you could get infected so I wouldn't encourage that. But I don't know if the dirty thing would have something to do with your period, unless you broke something up there, which is not a very good chance that you did. (if you did you would feel it) So yes it will start, you just have to wait for it.

Hope I helped :)

Masturbating does not affect your period.
You're perfectly fine. Some girls don't get theirs until they're 16! And trust me, you aren't missing out on anything. But don't go to the doctor, please, it won't do anything to help you because there is nothing wrong. And don't cry over it, you're honestly going to be fine! Your period normally starts 1-2 years after puberty starts, the pubic hair, etc. Like I said, just calm down, you'll be fine! =]
