we seriously are really close and hit it off right away and we're aren't like the normal 'oh i love you couples' that break up and then move on. me and him are each other's first and we really feel like we can last. we almost never argue and we have a lot of fun. and we have a lot of support from our friends. and we've only been together for four months...
but he told me something about a promise ring and i do want one...but do you think it's too young? i mean we are waiting till our 20's to get engaged and married and it sounds a little far fetched, but we really feel like we are that close...
but are we too young? and is that what a promise ring always means? and what finger would i wear it on?
i need and answer soon. thanks in advance. =]

I understand that you two are in love, I don't doubt it. However, you don't want to have such a heavy commitment at such a young age. You have the rest of your lives to make these promises. Since you two aren't going to break up anytime soon, what is the rush to get these rings? Just wait it out. I really wouldn't even think about getting one before I've been dating someone a year. At the very least.
And no, promise rings don't always hold the meaning you intend them to have. Sometimes one wears a promise ring to symbolize that they are waiting for marriage to have sex. A lot of religious people I know have promise rings. The idea behind it is that they won't have sex until the ring is replaced by a wedding ring.
And you can wear it on any finger on either hand. Its traditional to wear it on your ring finger, usually of your left hand, but these days, a lot of people wear them on their right hand ring finger that way others don't confuse the rings for engagement rings.
LadyH answered Sunday July 8 2007, 8:48 pm: I would never doubt your feelings for eachother, but yes it is a little too soon to be making promises. I guess I've just never understood the purpose of a promise ring. In my eyes, you're either engaged or not. & you should not promise a lifetime together until he gets on his knee & officially proposes to you. Many things can, of course, change between now & 5 years so it's too fast for any type of promise - especially after dating for four months. If you are still dating till you're in your 20s, then great! But don't make any big commitments right now. You're still young & have so much time ahead of you. You'll only be even more disappointed in the end if things don't work out. [ LadyH's advice column | Ask LadyH A Question ]
kc answered Sunday July 8 2007, 5:35 pm: In my opinion? Yes.
You are 15, and you will meet other boys in your life. You don't want to be tied down so much over a dinky ring.
He will be going to college, you will still be in high school.
I am not saying you guys won't work out, but I believe a promise ring is a little much, for the age, and because you have only been together for 4 months. [ kc's advice column | Ask kc A Question ]
