another modeling question

I am also looking to do modeling...but i live in Maine, and there are like no places...
Im 5'9, and i weight about 119lb, and everyone tells me i should model, but im sure how to get started..any advice?

OK. I answered a question like this like a week ago so I'll just copy and paste my answer.
i started modeling for a local agency that did a lot of promotional stuff, and then worked my way into bigger things.
anyone can model if they are determined to get jobs and willing to work for it. you need to google local modeling agencies in your area. some will ask you to send in pictures of yourself and maybe go in for an interview. if you are accepted into the agency, you will most likely be asked to get pictures done, DONT PAY FOR PRICY PORTFOLIOS! at least not at first, if you start getting a lot of jobs and it is needed to further pursue your career, then look into it. if an agency promises you jobs if you pay for training than it is a scam because the clients choose you. you will need to have some pictures made professionally when you are accepted so they can be shown to clients. some agencies will pay for them if you are accepted, but it is unlikely. its likely that you willl start off doing promotional things like handing out flyers for companies and stuff like that. this IS NOT a waste of your time. it is important to get your name out. you need to be very sweet and personable when communicating with anyone involved in the industry, this is very inportant. act mature and present your self as if you have class. if you want to increase your chances of getting accepted into agencies and getting jobs, take acting classes, sign up for community theatre, or get involved with pagaents (this definatly helps your resume, and you meet contacts in the process)
if you dont get accepted into the first agency you come by, dont sweat it, its very rare that you would. just be sweet about it and ask what you can do to better your chances of getting into an agency. dont act upset or mean because you dont want to get on bad terms with ANYONE in the industry. agencies talk.
some will have height and weight requirements, but you dont have to meet these for all types of modeling. im only 5'1 and im a lifestyle and print model. so dont get discouraged if they arent nice to you because of your appearance (i was laughed at by agencies when i told them how tall i was)
if you are determined to get into modeling, you can. just be prepared to take criticism and dont let it get to you. if you have any other questions feel free to ask =)
