the bible

Question Posted Wednesday July 4 2007, 11:16 am

Lately, ive just been really wanting to connect with God, and get to know him like everyone talks about. I want to improve as a christian, and i want to have God change my life so i can change others. No one in my circle of life is really in to that. And i feel that i have so many questions about God that i read in the bible but no one to talk to them about! I am in a youth group, but seriously, no one takes anything seriously, and they get real annoying after awhile, because they are so disrespectful and no one is really looking for that relationship with God. Last night i was reading, and it was saying all this stuff in mathews about not going to heaven if you break a ten commandment, but i thought it was if you just believe in him? did i read it wrong? or what? Also, everytime i read the bible, i start to cry for some reason, and i get really scared. and i dont no why. and i know god wouldnt want that for me at all. Where are some parts in the bible that talk about how much God loves us, and how he frogives us and doesnt expect us to be perfect. Because thats what im struggling with. and how should i start reading the bible because im new to this and i dont understand how to start, like where to start... thank you so much for helping. oh by the way im 14/f

child, i thank God for you. i really do. you just made me feel really good. you said that you have no one to talk to about these things. yes you do. God himself. if you don't understand somethin in the bible, go ask you're pastor. not you're youth pastor, but the pastor pastor. and what jesus ment in matthew, was that you're not suppose to break the 10 commandments. BUT if you, repent of your sins(ask God to forgive you, and don't do it again. and you asked for parts in the bible about God's love and etc... ephesians 5:1,2
romans 8:31,32,35
john 3:16
matthew 11:28-30
1st corinthians 15:50-54
romans 4:7,8
matthew 6:14,15
a good place to start is in matthew to john. and i hope this helps you. if you need to talk about about the bible, drop me an email. and ill do my very best to help you.

God bless

Well thats a big question i will try my best to answer it.... when u read bout the commenandments well GOD wants you to try your best to follow them but he doenst excpect you to be perfect he wants you to strive to be perfect some people think of GOD as someone who has a big sludge hammer and is ready to hit you on the head everytime you do wrong!!!HE'S nothing like that!!he loves you and doesnt wanna hurt you he wants whats best for you. and you should read Psalms in the BIBLE David wrote these verses that are like poems when he was going through hard times it should help you and give you confidence!! And, some people on YOUTH groups dont understand the importance of a real and true relatipnship with GOD and you do thats great stand above the crowd stand you ground!!! And, whenever you sin ask GOD for FORGIVENESS and ask him to help you with all the problems and habits you have HE'S always here for you!!! and it's okay to get emotional over the BIBLE but to be scared is somthing differnt you have no reason to be scared GOD didnt tell people to write the BIBLE to sacre you HE wrote it to help you!!! Well, you know what it means to become a CHRISTIAN you have to have a personal realtionship with JESUS CHRIST!! you have to beleive he died on the CROSS for your sins and rose again in three days you do that and try your best to walk in the LIGHT everyday you have it made! i PRAY i was of help GOD BLESS
:D

Bless you for seeking a relationship with God. The words in the bible are powerful. When a person is serious about seeking God, God reveals Himself to that person and emotions can get stirred.

Salvation is by faith alone in Christ alone. I don't know what part of Matthew you are referring to, but it's important to understand the context of the passages.

If you are referring to Matthew 19 where Jesus tells the rich young ruler he must obey the commandments, then let me explain: Jesus pointed out that the commandments must be kept in order to have eternal life. To have eternal life, one must be perfect. The rich young ruler said he had kept all of them, but in reality he hadn't; no one has and Jesus knew that. If the ruler had indeed kept them, he would not, in the next breath, have asked Jesus what he lacked. The ruler knew there was something else and he knew he lacked it. When Jesus said go sell everything and follow, the ruler walked away. He was not willing to believe that Jesus was the Way to salvation. Instead the ruler chose the things of this world. God has nothing against us having stuff, but when stuff is more important than Him, it's idolatry which is breaking the first commandment. The ruler had indeed broken the commandments.

It sounds like you have lots of questions and perhaps reading the questions/answers at my column will help. But as far as where to start reading in the bible, I recommend the book of John. Also, if you would like, I would be happy to disciple you. That means I would be happy to answer your questions and encourage your seriousness about God. Just leave questions at my column or my email address.

that's really cool that you're like that- i used to be just like you. but then i converted to athesism but that's not my point, haha.

there's an organization called Christian Youth Theater... i don't know if there's one in your area, you don't even have to be into theater to take their classes, most people there are religious fanatacs/jesus freaks/etc. So i'm sure you can find plenty of people there who are looking for that relationship with god.

or just join some kind of online forum about it.

i hope i helped. good luck.

i used to cry sometimes when i read the bible- i think it just shows that you feel really strong about what you're reading.

and maybe you're afraid of the power of who you're reading about.

but you could have a really good future in your religion.

if no one at your youth group is serious about God, you could always try talking to your church pastor or your youth group leader. if you break one of the ten comandments you dont go to hell, as long as you have asked christ into your heart and believe he died for you so that he could take away your sins. god knows youre not perfect. he knows you will make mistakes, and he knows you will sin. thats why he sent his son to die for you, so that you could be forgiven. all you have to do is ask forgiveness of him, and he will forgive you. there is no particular way to read the bible, but reading it straight through isnt always good. it depends on what you are interested in reading about. if you can tell me specifically something you would like to learn from the bible, i may be able to give you some readings that will help.

First off, me being a Christian for my whole life, I can say its great that you want to explore and are this curious at this young of an age. I went to a Catholic school my whole life, where we studied the Bible daily, and I still have yet to partially understand everything. One main thing I can tell you is the Bible can be percepted in several ways, and there really is no "right" way to interpret it.

There are several religous books that you can read that disect the Bible, and explain each part. You can always try getting one of those. Or theres also Church. Depending on what sect of Christianity you are, go to a mass or service. The readings and sermons help explain things a lot.

Also, you can always go talk to an annointed and recognized relgious official (ie priest, nun) and ask them your questions and express your confusion.

Hope I helped =)
