Summer children's games

Question Posted Monday July 2 2007, 12:40 pm

ok so in about a week my family reunion is coming up and i'm responsible for creating games for the younger children to play part of the time. They are about 2 - 7 years old. I need game ideas that they can play like on teams for prizes i will have. I already have things like a pinata, an obstacle course, and a water balloon toss.

Can anyone think of any other game ideas that i can use?

You can have an Egg Toss right before the Water Balloon Fight! I did it on the last day of my choir and everyone thought is was a BLAST! You put the children in teams of two and line them up to their teammate is about 3 Feet away from them. Then you say TOSS! The children will throw the eggs to their teammate and their teammate will try to catch it. Each time they finish one throw, you tell them to take one or two steps back. If their egg explodes/breaks then they're out. The last team remaining can get a prize. Then they can get cleaned off during the Water Balloon Fight! I hope you can use this game and hope that they'll like it!

Theres a magazine called American Girl and it's not the magazine with the products in it, its the monthly subscription one. I don't know if you have a library around but if there is you can get lots of ideas from there. But children won't want to play a game for very long so you want to be prepared to do as many things as possible. And games that take lots of directions children won't want to play.
-Hide and Go Seek
-Tag
-Tv Tag
-Soccer
-Spud
-Dancing
-Sidewalk Chalk
-Kickball
-Clue
-Go Fish
-Painting
-Crafts

Also harder to set up games you could do are:

Fishing (Where you have a wall between you and the child, and they put poles with clothing line clips over the wall and you hook prizes on)

Circus (Have balls, ribbons, stick, flags, poles. And you can tell them they are in a circus and they have to come up with an act)

Prizes are easy stickers, markers, crayons, little teddy bears, necklaces, bracelets, barbie clothes, little things, often dollar stores sell little medals.
Good luck! :)

Well I babysit my two year old cousin and I always hide his favorite toys and help him find it, but I make the game go on for a while to take up time.
Play hide and seek they always love finding people/toys.
He also loves to chase after me when I'm running around the house.
Hope I helped.
:D

You have a wide-ish range of ages. Younger kids like coloring. You can also leave out some jump ropes, maybe if you have a tiny house with fake food and utensils (if possible), get a sprinkler going, bubbles solutions, marbles, you can get out any random toys you used to have like Barbies or cars and have a toybox, maybe a mini basketball hoop (lots of games can be played with this like HORSE), etc.

Here are some games the children can play with each other:

- Duck, duck goose
- Charades
- Children's books
- Kick the Can (Play: Place coffee can in a large open area to be home base. It counts to 50 while the other kids hide. When It SEES a child, he calls her name. They both race to the can, and try to kick it first. If It kicks the can, the hider is caught and placed in "prison" on the porch. If the hider kicks the can, she and all players in prison are free, and It must count again.)
- Hopscotch
- Red Rover (Play: Kids line up in two lines, each line holding hands and facing the other. The two lines should be some distance apart for running back and forth. The first line chooses a runner from the other line to call, saying "Red Rover, Red Rover, Let [chosen child] come over." That child runs to the other line, trying to break through the hands of two children. If the runner breaks through, he chooses someone from that line and takes them back to his line. If he doesn't break through, he joins that line. The game ends when all children are in one line. *Note, arm holding is not allowed.)
- Singing children's songs
- Four Square
- I Spy (Play: It silently chooses an item in the observable environment. He says, "I spy something [the color of the item he picked, for example - red]. The other kids blurt out their guesses of what the item is until someone guesses it, or they are stumped.)
- Capture the Flag
- Hide and Seek or Sardines or Chain Hide and Seek (Play: This is an easy and wild hide and seek variation. Itcounts to 50 while everyone hides. When the first child is found, he takes It's hand and goes with him to find the others. Each child joins the chain as he is found.)
- Hold contests with prizes like who can spit out the watermelon seed the farthest

What about bobbing for apples?

Or you could do a few simple games like red light, green light. Stuff like that.

There are a few game ideas here, too.
