sad alot

Question Posted Sunday July 1 2007, 3:15 pm

13/f
Latley I have been feeling like i have no use in the world. I feel like i have no talents like the actors and models and singers do. I think it might be depression, which my mother has, so it does run in the family, but i don't think it is so bad that i need medication. I'm just sad, all the time. I want to do something like model or act so i wont feel so useless, but i dont think i would ever get the oppertunity to. I dont cut and i never thought of killing myself so dont worry about that. My main questions are
1.Is this depression, or something else?
2.Should i see a doctor or something?

plz answer soon

thanks

It's your outlook that needs changing not you. You are the opposite of how you are describing yourself. I KNOW you have talents and skills other people don't and are quite useful, gifted, and exceptional.

Everyone is in their own way but the problem is you aren't claiming these things as yours. You're trying to deny them or the thoughts you are entertaining to be more correct are but they cannot.

You have clinical depression from what I can see (don't take this as a diagnoses) based on having an illness in the same family as this. if you are chronically sad 24/7 or your moods flucuate too often or you feel extreme highs and then lows and back again it's definitely signs of a problem.

You may think you don't need medication but mild anti-depressants could definitely help you here and get you happier and enjoying life. You should keep a diary documenting your feelings and tell your parents what is going on so they can get you acessed and feeling bettter.

So, this is likely clinicial depression albeit it mild that can be treated with anti-depressants and you should see your family doctor and if he thinks you are depressed ask for a referral to a psychiatrist that treats only kids and teens for support.

You just really need to have a positive outlook on life. If you're discouraged and you believe that you can't succeed in what you do, there's a slight chance that you're just hurting yourself.
Do what you love, if you want to sing, practice and try your hardest. Never fail at what you do.

To answer your questions:
Yes, this could be a form of depression, It might just be some stress that you're going through right now or maybe you just going through a stage. I'm sure everything will work out, you just have to believe in yourself.
And a doctor might tell you the same thing, if you want to see a psychiatrist if it's that bad, that's not a bad idea either. they can give you real helpful tips on how to manage your depression and stress and make you feel a bit better.

Good luck, Take care, and feel better.

i think it is, but one of the things i do is not identify myself as something in fact if i think i have something such as depression i might actually make up symptoms to prove to myself i do have it, so maybe you dont your just worrying to much?
Ok and dont use the celebs as a example to rate yourself by if you look at them they have normal lives like you and strengths and weaknesses in fact you'd probably be suprised that alot of celebs suffer from depression 2, and that you have talents they would only dream of having, you just have to dig deep to find them, like are you a people person, visit at nursinghomes or join some cool clubs and learn a new talent

It's very common for everyone to go through a stage where they are discouraged or don't feel like any use in this world - especially at your age. With today's media, it's even more of a problem for young teens. Society is completely surrounded with celebrities lives, that kids are so easily influenced to believe that celebrity lives are "normal." As a result, kids are so eager to want to grow up like them. Ten years ago when you asked kids what they wanted to be when they grew up & you'd get answers like: a teacher, a doctor, a fireman, a lawyer. Now, you ask kids the same qeustion & the most popular answers are: models, actresses or any type of big time celebrity. And of course, many of them are discouraged because their goals are set too high. I am not stating that it's impossible to become any of those professions, it's just not as realistic without true talent & hardwork. To get to your questions:

1.) If you are sad all the time & it affects with your daily life, then yes you are showing signs of depression. But that doesn't necessarily mean you are depressed.

2.) If this is affecting your daily life and/or you are worried about ANYTHING, then the wise decision would be to see your doctor. From what you have told me, I believe it's something normal we all go through. But on the other hand, it could be (or someday become something) serious. & I'd NEVER want to advise you that it's not something you should get checked out. In conclusion, I suggest seeing a doctor to be evaluated to be on the safe side.

In the meantime, realize that there are other professions out there that aren't "useless." No matter what you choose to do, you are providing a service to others or helping someone in someway. Professions such as teachers & doctors enlighten kids & help save lives. That's more worthy than someone who only provides entertainment to the the public. Set lower goals for yourself so you aren't easily discouraged when you can't meet big ones like - becoming famous. If you take baby steps towards your goal, you're more likely to reach them. & thus, you won't be disappointed.
