threatened.

Question Posted Saturday June 30 2007, 5:12 pm

There's this guy I met online and he threatened to kill me last night because I cancelled plans with him and went to the club with my friends. I don't want to tell my brother because he gets fucking PISSED and I don't want to deal with him. My cousin is the strongest guy in the tristate area and he's a bouncer at a club in philly, so what should I do? I'm freaked out even though i've been through this before.

you can listen to the other columnists and believe that the guy was just in the heat of the moment, but listen to my story for a bit. before my mother married my father, she had a best friend who owned a business. the best friend had two little girls and a crappy boyfriend. the best friend made the boyfriend angry, and she thought that was the end of it. my mother's best friend was about to leave work one day when the crappy boyfriend came in and shot her and then shot himself. she died and left her two little girls to be raised by her parents. if anybody ever threatens you like that, always, always take them seriously. because you never know. don't just shrug it off. tell your cousin, tell your parents, tell whoever you need to tell so that you are safe. you never know what people might do.

Chances are this guy was just mad and said it in the heat of the moment but of course you can never be too careful where your personal safety is concerned . I agree you do need to tell someone, it's too much to try handle on your own but the last thing you need is someone who will freak out so your cousin sounds like a good person to tell, or a friend you can trust. While hopefully the threat is an idle one, be sure to let people know where you are going and when you are likely to be back. I hope everything works out well for you, take care.x

You should report the incident. You never know what people are capable of, especially if you don't know them that well, so you should tell someone just to be on the safe side. If you don't want to go to the cops, just tell your cousin. That way he'll know what's going on. That way if this guy follows through with his threat and attacks you and you call and hang up, your cousin will know to come right away. But if you really think that this guy might actually go through with it, you need to keep yourself protected. Keep pepper spray and a bullhorn with you. You can use one of those and will be able to run for help.

Hope this helps you.
