the chances of you getting in trouble in the least bit are very slim. chillax and enjoy some free music, haha. there are way too many people on limewire for the fuzz to really crack down on anybody. all of my friends use limewire, and i have honestly never heard of somebody who doesn't absolutely abuse it (downloading like a million songs a day) getting in trouble for it. the chances of anything at all happening to you are basically nonexistent. but make sure that you look through the options menu (don't know where it is because i use itunes) and make sure that you make it so that your music in your music folder can't be shared with other people. it should just be a check box or something that says "share music in music folder with p2p network?" and make sure that it's unchecked. that's just a safety thing though. but yeah, happy downloading :)

You will not get caught if you are just downloading, but after you download, limewire automatically starts uploading whatever you just downloaded. This is where you can get caught. It's possible to disable this, but it's important to give back to the community, so you shouldn't. If you use any of these ISPs(especially cox, comcast, and charter), you *will* get an infringement notice eventually:
SusCom
Atlantic Broadband
Cablevision's Optimum Online
RCN/Starpower
Adelphia Cable Communications
iProvo
Qwest
Digis
Cox
Comcast
PlusNet
Charter Communications
Resnet
Shadownet
DirecPC
BellSouth

These ISPs spy on everything you do online, and you should be outraged about it. If you stop the infringement after the notice, you won't usually have to go to court, or pay any fines.

For absolute immunity from any legal issues, run a tor exit node:

Running a tor exit node gives you the same protection ISPs get, so you're not responsible for anything(even your own stuff) that goes through your connection.

Ok, well the chances of you getting caught are very slim. But the fine would be more than 50-100$. I saw somewhere on the news that some women that used limewire got caught and had to pay 20,000 dollars, but thats only because she downloaded like 20,000 songs, so I think that you are o.k. Plus a lot of people use limewire and not that many are getting caught. But companies are starting to be more aware of it so I would download a little music. Like not 5 a day. Plus I use limewire and my dad has been using it for years and has never gotten caught.

hope i helped

Peer to Peer (P2P) networking is actually easy enough to track and find out who is downloading what. But for the most part, it's all freeware and is available to EVERYONE and their mother. So even if you were to use it en masse and download a ton of music, there is little chance of actually getting caught, since it is almost a household thing now.

Your internet provider might be able to trace it if you are the only one (or in a selection of only a few people) that are using it. However, internet is common in most American homes and therefore, providers have alot of customers.

All in all, it is actually relatively safe to download via limewire, kazaa, morpheus, bearshare, etc. You run a better chance of getting a virus or spyware than actually getting caught and fined for downloading music and whatnot.

The main thing to remember here is that there is safety in numbers. So the more downloading means the less chance of getting caught. The only challenge to this is the proposed government regulation of the internet. But this is unlikely to happen..since the internet is private and company owned and the government has little say to what happens to it. Plus if they were to try and do that, the public outcry would be so massive that they would have no choice but to back down.

theres liek no chance of you getting caught unless someone has a warrant to search your hosue and/or your stuff. other than that no one has the right to come into your house adn look at your computer. you really cant get caught by downlaoding things.. theres really no way cause theres no account and theres not a tracker on your computer. i wouldnt worry about it

The only way you're going to get caught is if you massively download music. That is, if you download a song per minute for an entire year, I think you're going to get caught.
As for a fine, I would assume its $50-$100 dollars.

And I use limewire. You don't see me arrested, do you?
