Confession Sacrament

Question Posted Saturday June 23 2007, 6:57 pm

I want to go to Confession so badly. I just want to feel more clean and worthy of God, but I don't know how I can go. I'm Catholic and so is my family, I'm a very strict Catholic but not to a huge level. The only time I EVER go to Confession is when my school goes. My school is a Catholic School so we go like once every school year. I would feel embarassed to go up to my mom and just say "Can we go to Confession?". I don't know why. I'm not embarassed about my faith at all, in fact I'm proud. In fact I'd love to just wear a necklace with a cross to advertise my faith in school because my friends aren't very faithful. Or at least they don't act like they care about God which bothers me SO MUCH! And then one of them just says "Since when do you care about giving things up for Lent?" I'VE ALWAYS CARED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT JUST GETS ME SO MAD I'M SORRY. Anyways, how do I go to Confession without asking my parents? Is there something I could do? I want to go to one Priest in particular. How can I do that?
Thanks.

You could always have some prayer time to yourself, in your room, and confess to God of whats bothering you. Time alone with God just might be the answer. If you feel that you have to go do it with a priest, without your parents, maybe ask a friend to take you over? If their your real friends, they should understand, even if they aren't very faithful. Yes, it could be akward if they aren't very ok with it, but would you rather be with them, or your parents? Are your parents strong catholics? If you feel you need to go to confession, and you have no other choice, I'd go with your dad or mom.

You don't have to go to a priest to confess. A priest can of course listen, and talking things out can temporarily make you feel better, but it sounds to me like you're looking for something deeper. It sounds like you want to be washed clean completely.

What you need to do to feel clean and worthy of God is to cry out directly to God. Confess your sins in a heartfelt prayer. The Bible says in Psalm 32:5 (David is praying to God) "So I confessed my sins and told them all to you. I said, 'I'll tell the LORD each one of my sins.' Then you forgave me and took away my guilt." (CEV)

Jesus died for you so you can have access to the Father directly. If you believe Jesus died for your sins, you have just as much access to God as a priest does. Do you believe Jesus died for your sins? If so, give them to Him.

This is very good that you want to receive the sacrament of reconciliation, because unfortunately many people our age, especially girls, do not wish to do so or find it unnecessary. Ask the priest if it is possible to arrange a meeting during school hours, maybe even lunch time. I'm guessing classes might be over for you, so you might have to find another way. Ask your mother that you would like to receive the sacrament of reconciliation - there is nothing to feel embarrassed about, and I don't see why you would be questioned about it. If she or somebody else asks why you want to go or what you want to confess, then reply with something along the lines of: I haven't gone in __ months, and I feel like I can grow closer to God, even if I don't have serious sins to confess. You wouldn't be lying by saying that, because it is true: you will grow closer to God. Also, it avoids them trying to pry into you and find what you want to confess about. Call the church or rectory and ask to speak with the priest to see if you can arrange a time or go during the week. Most are pretty flexible and willing to make arrangements. Hope that helped and good luck.
