In a couple of days I am going to Dominica, an island in the west indies for a month to do community service with a group of other high schoolers.
Apparently at night it is in the 80's and I am very worried about having trouble going to sleep, because sleeping in hot weather is so hard. all i'm going to have is a sheet, but does anyone have ideas on what i could bring or do at night so I won't be so hot?? I'm extremely worried that I will never be able to get to sleep!
if your not used to it and you cant sleep i would suggest using a standing fan or during the day freeze washcloths and at night put them on your forehead or wherever your hottest. thats what my mom used to do for us when we were little! good luck hun! and have a safe trip! I slept in a very hot dorm room a few times, and the trick is to buy a large bag of ice, rest pieces of it on your body and lie still and relax. Ice-upuncture, if you will. Keep replacing melted cubes until you are asleep. Very affective. [ duzzie19's advice column | Ask duzzie19 A Question ]

However, if it doesn't, bring a fan & make sure you take cool-cold showers if at all possible. Showers usually cool you off, so it's best to take them cooler than usual so it feels even better. [ christina's advice column | Ask christina A Question ]

Also, bring like washcloths. at night put water on them so that they are soaked and lay them on your head and stomach. This is what I do. It keeps you very cool. Also, like stiff cardboard or somthing so you can fan yourself, as well as maybe instant ice paks or gel cool paks that you dont have to freeze. thanks for your community service! good luck [ acetrace92's advice column | Ask acetrace92 A Question ]
