is it possible for a fracture in an animal to heal on its own? about how long would it take?

It IS possible for it to "heal" on it's own, but that could lead to future problems with the bone.
The best thing to do is get any fractures checked out by a vet, because the vet would be able to see if there is anything else wrong besides the fracture.

Yah, it's possible, if you don't mind allowing the animal to have a gimped up bone from not being properly set. And if it isn't properly set, it will ache even after healed.
I wouldn't allow it to go untreated, myself. It's not humane.
I don't know how long it takes bones to heal, but it would ever properly heal unless set and treated.

It really depends on the fracture. But honestly, it is extremely inhumane to let a pet's fracture heal on its own. Not only is the percentage high for bone retardation (for lack of a better word), but the animal will be in constant extreme pain. I, personally could never let something like that happen to any of my animals. You should take your pet to the vet, as soon as possible. This is an emergency.
