There are many types of depression. I also suffer from a sever type of depression. Anyway here's a site that I found that might answer some of your questions. And about your mom, I would go straight up to her and ask her. If she shuts you down, go to a close grown up. Ex. aunt, uncle, grandparent, teacher, best friend's parents. Ask them for help, I'm sure they will offer as much as they can give.
IF THIS DOESN'T HELP, TYPE IN BIPOLAR DISORDER IN YOUR SEARCH BOX. OR JUST TYPE IN ANY QUESTION THAT YOU HAVE. THAT'S HOW I FOUND THIS SITE. [ Arthane's advice column | Ask Arthane A Question ]

How do you ask your mom? Say to her you think you feel sick mentally and you feel it has come time for you to seek medical advice. Don't just come out and say "Hey, Ma! I think I'm bipolar!" She will be less likely to take you seriously. Tell her you know something is wrong, and you feel it is best to see a doctor to find out what the problem is. Start out with, "Mom, please, we need to talk about me."
Also, though I understand you don't get along, it may be a good idea to have a good sit-down talk-about with her, and discuss with her what is going on with you- mentally, emotionally, physically. It's hard to do, but you need to make yourself heard. If you need medical attention, then she needs to help you seek it.
I hope she helps you get the help you need and deserve. :)
