Caught undereage smoking
What can happen if you are caught underage smoking?
At my local shopping mall a lot of us from my school (we are 16) and many others our age smoke in the designated smoking area and the security guards see us but what can happen? Can they do anything?
One time they just came over and asked us what we were doing out of school. i live in Australia by the way. I'm 16/f.

If they are just internal security for the shopping mall there's not really much they can do other than maybe ask for some form of ID (depending on how old you actually have to be to smoke over there) or simply confiscate the cigs and ask you to leave the area/mall. Security guards are NOT at the same status as police officers socan not give you a caution as such but they may warn you in which case if you're caught again you will be banned from the mall. Alternatively, if they really can be bothered, they may call the police to assist them in which case you could get into some trouble (a warning, fine etc).

They might tell you to put them out & make you pay a small fee. But if it's first warning, they might not do much to you. It depends if they're assholes or not.

They take them and give you a citation so you'll have to pay. Usually not all that much money.
