overwhelmed

Question Posted Sunday June 3 2007, 2:48 pm

15/f. i'm so overwhelmed by everything right now and i just need help. i used to be so honest and always tell the truth, but now for some reason i find myself lying all the time, especially to my parents. whenever my parents are away my sister always has parties, and i always have to lie to protect her.

but i'm so over lying. it gets me upset to have to lie. i just want to be able to come home at night to my house, without a bunch of people here. then they all get drunk and sleep here.

what do i do? i don't want to betray my sister, but i hate lying. i've lied before to protect her, but i don't want to have to lie anymore.

thanks for any help

tell your sister. its not fair (or right) that she's doing this to you. tell her that you hate lieing all the time. and your not gonna lie anymore so she better stop. of course she'll be mad but she will get over it. your family. dont tell your parents though. just dont lie anymore. and talk your sister. explain how you feel and why shes doing this.

I agree with the person below me. It's really great that you have a tight bond with your sister to protect her like that, but she should see what an awkward situation she's putting you in. It shouldn't be your responsibility to deal with all the people and the lying and the guilt. Next time your sister plans a party, tell her straight out that you're going to tell your parents. If she doesn't have the party or throws a party somewhere else, then thats good. If she has the party anyway; well, you warned her. You shouldn't have to take your sister's consequences. Good luck =]

She should not be putting you in such a situation. Family want the best for you, so don't feel horrible if you turn her in for her wrong doings. Of course, you should warn her beforehand that you're done covering for her, so from that point on there should be no guilt for her actions and the consequences because she'll know in advance that she's not making a smart choice.
