So I'm out of school for the summer. I'm trying to find things to do to keep myself busy so I'm not just sitting around the house all the time. I'm on a limited budget, so it's not like I have money to spend on an amazing vacation or anything. The only thing I have planned this summer is a week-long camping trip, but that might not even happen because the friend I was going to go with probably won't be able to get off work. I don't really have a lot of friends to hang out with either. And I don't like swimming.
Any suggestions on things I could do this summer to keep myself busy?
My interests are writing, roller blading, reading, video games, etc. if that helps. I just want to find something to do that will help me get out of the house!

NinjaNeer answered Thursday May 31 2007, 6:24 pm: I know this really isn't that fun sounding, but how about a job? Or, failing that, volunteer work? If you work, you'll enjoy the time you have off more because you'll appreciate it and you'll have money. If you volunteer, find something you'll enjoy, and not only will you be keeping yourself occupied, you'll be helping others.
Something I did one summer is to go online and find a list of 100 books everyone should read. Then I tackled it.

Go roller blading around your town or take a bike ride.
Have a little cookout or picnic.
Just be creative.

if you like rollerblading, go to a park and just rollerblade with yourself! who says you need a friend to enjoy life? bring along some music or something. If you like writing, maybe go to a park where it's quiet and relaxing and write a poem or book. same thing with reading...
video games? that you can only do inside the house, so i would try to challenge yourself to only play video games 5 hours a week. sound good??
there are so many things you can do... if you have a city website, go there and see if there are any concerts or parties or something. maybe take your bike out of the garage and bike around. Go shopping!!!! woooo! that's what i would do. lol
and i mean you don't even have to buy that much stuff, you can still go to stores and just browse and see cool new things. go to the movie theatre, or maybe sign up for an art club. If you have a specific sport that you're good at, go and sign up for a team or club.
my neighbors and I did this one time- Have a Block Party and have a variety show. serve lots and lots of food and have seats outside that the audience can sit and watch the show. Have a Spokes person and you can introduce the neighbors who have talents that would like to show the audience. Kinda like a talent show. It doesn't even have to be your neighborhood. maybe just your friends...
you just have to be creative. sometimes what helps is if you jump in the car and just drive around and hopefully see signs or posters of upcoming events in your city.
