Tightning your butt Ok in clas we had to excercise while following it on thsi video and the guy kept saying to make sure to tighten your butt and abs while excercising.
Does that mean that I'm supposed to suck in my tummy when I excersise? What about the butt thing?

The guy is probably wanting you to keep good posture while excerising. (Sometimes people tend to arch their lower back, sticking out their butt and stomach, which can cause lower back pain, plus it doesn't look that good!). Keeping your abs and butt tight helps keep your back nice and straight. People sometimes call it "suck and tuck"... suck in your lower tummy, as if you're trying to touch your belly button to your tailbone... and squeeze your buns together while tucking your hips forward. ]
When you're doing something like situps, you should try to hold your stomach in (breathe in) when you are doing the situp. Then when your elbows are at your knees at the end of the situp, you can breathe out and let your stomach out. And then repeat. Same thing for when you're doing leg lifts, squats, or anything like that.
You do not need to suck your stomach or butt in when you are doing cardio exercise. (like running, biking, swimming, etc.)
So basically, yes, when you are trying to strengthen your muscles, you may want to hold them in. Apparently it is more effective that way, but I'm not really sure I believe it. ]
