Research Paper on RENT & Jonathan Larson

Question Posted Saturday May 26 2007, 3:09 pm

For my history class, I'm researching Rent & Larson, the author. Anyway, I can't think of a thesis or introduction for the paper. I've always struggled with writting papers in general but I have the rest of it under control. Any ideas on how to start my paper? I don't really have anything to prove since I'm just telling about it... I don't want to compare and contras for more than one paragraph in the paper. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thank you!

The thesis is a sentence that embodies your entire paper.

Jonathan Larson was an influential composer and playwright that brought important issues into the public light.

I don't know if that's entirely true, since I just skimmed a wikipedia article, but a thesis is something like that. And the introduction expands on that. Wikipedia's introduction is:

Jonathan Larson (February 4, 1960 – January 25, 1996) was an American composer and playwright who lived in New York City and authored musicals, including Rent and Tick, Tick... BOOM!. These musicals tackle serious issues such as multiculturalism, addiction, homophobia, and the AIDS epidemic. His artistic vision and goal was to fuse Generation X and the MTV Generation with the world of musical theatre in his work. This mission was somewhat accomplished by his magnum opus, Rent, which was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and won four Tony Awards.

Obviously you can't use that exact thing, but write something similar.
