URGENT good university/good college

Question Posted Thursday May 24 2007, 6:44 pm

1. first of all, what is the difference between the two?

2. what is the point of going to a good college? is it because you have a better chance of getting a job than an applicant who graduates from a different, not as prestigious school when you both are going for the same position? do people who go to a "better" school earn more money just because they went to a "better" school? how often does this happen? or are people in it to brag about what school you graduated from? or do they offer a better education? is second-tier just as good as first-tier?

3. how do you explain the fact that some people who graduate with like a phd from harvard or wherever cannot find jobs? what is the point in that?

1. a university has like different colleges in it, like to study different things. they basically just have more possible courses because of a bigger variety.

2. A good college is so you can put it on your resume and if you go to a good college, a lot of places won't turn down an interview. And as long as you do well in a school whether its good or a community college..you can say that you got your phd or whatever and then you have more chances for interviews with jobs.

3. Some people that go to those places and take certain courses cant find openings in their path. Also, just because they went to a good college it doesn't mean that they aren't rude..so they could just not be great people and do bad on interviews.

sorry if this doesnt help..this is just what i've heard and what i think. good luck (:

It doesn't matter.
In this world it's all about who you know and how good your social skills are to get to know these people.

Schools are all about money.

You could even be successful being a highschool drop out.

How does all of this impact the perceived prestige of the schools you might choose? Does this mean that an Ivy League degree does not provide a higher degree of learning or better potential for success than another college? Not necessarily. The point is that no Ivy League degree ever guaranteed anybody anything except short-term (and most likely long-term) branding of one's perceived quality or value as a person or an employee. There is no research that suggests a top-tier college degree provides more earning potential over a lifetime, more happiness, more insight, more knowledge, more self-worth, or more soulful quality living per-dollar-earned than any other school in the country.
