Jesus, accountability

Question Posted Thursday May 24 2007, 1:23 pm

Well, I have truly come to hate this word. I am trying to become a good christian, heck - I would settle for just christian. As it is, I'm having enormous problems with BELIEVING. So I've been googling, and asking lots of questions on how to become a good christian, and everywhere theý say - use the people God have put in your life, turn to other christians, be with those closer to God, get to know your Church-family, GET YOURSELF AN ACCOUNTABILITY PARTNER! But I have none! I know NO Christiand, I have none in my life, and my church is...well, different. So what do I do? I keep trying and trying and everytime I think I'm getting closer to Jesus, something happens. I just stop-- and in a few months have to start it all over. I've never been close to Jesus or had trong faith for over a month, it's always just a week or so that I really believe and pray and act like a real christian. Help me, please!

Let me ask you this, in your mind, what does a "good" Christian look like?

Being a Christian is not something a person does, it's something a person is. It's about the heart not about outward actions. The heart is right when it is focussed on Jesus. Being a Christian means having a personal relationship with Jesus.

You may ask, How do I get a personal relationship with Jesus? Think about your relationships with your friends. How did they become close friends? I'm guessing you talk with them and spend time with them. This developed trust and a closeness. And I would bet it took time for this development. It's the same way with knowing Jesus. Having Christian fellowship, accountability, guidance and the other stuff you mentioned is good, but ultimately it's time spent in prayer and in the Word that will draw you close to Jesus. Strong faith is not something that happens in a flash. It's developed; and many times it's developed through trials and hard times.

The fact that you are seeking is good. Don't give up and don't get discouraged. Rely on the Bible for the truth that it is and Jesus will meet you right where you are. He will bring people into your life to help explain things. Heck...I hadn't checked questions in almost two weeks and tonight I happen to read yours and respond. That's how God meets the needs of those who are truly seeking.

Well what you need to do is step out on your own and start doing some things to strengthen your faith. There are plenty of websites out there that have online bible studies that you can participate in. I know it's harder for you because you don't have any christian friends. I'm willing to stay in contact with you if you would like. I have a website where I post devotionals that I write. I have taken alot of them off because they were old but I can send you any of them you want. My web address is www.noneleftbehind.faithweb.com and my email address is nicann4360@yahoo.com and like I said before I will stay in contact with you if you need someone to encourage you in your everyday walk being a christian. So email and let me know what you think. Read my Bio on my advice column it tells a little about me. hope to hear from you soon.
