Usually, running just tones your body up. You most likely will lose fat, which will expose the muscle beneath the fat.
And yep, running helps your whole body.
To keep yourself entertained when you're running, try running with friends or a sibling. Or, you could bring a walkman/ipod, ect, and give yourself a certain amount of songs to reach. Then give yourself a reward at the end of the week for stickign to it or something.

running doesnt exactly add muscle, it just tones your whole body. this means basically all the fat will be gone and you will look really tight all over, not muscular.

Running will not make your legs bulky. I ran 20 minutes 5-6 days a week for a long time and my legs didn't get muscular, just smaller.

As for stopping after they slim down, that won't work. If you're going to work out, you have to stick with it or your legs will just end up how they are now again.

And yes, running is cardio and is good for all over weight loss.
