is limewire illegal? i heard it's not because its bases are located in australia or something..? is this true? and could someone explain to me the jist of why/why not its illegal

It all depends on where you live.
For instance, in Canada (where I am) it's fully legal to download whatever you want from the internet.
It is, however, illegal to use it for non-personal uses (i.e. giving it to someone else).

The program isn't illegal. Downloading copyrighted music or movies is. Limewire LLC will never get in legal trouble because you download music; you will. Limewire pro doesn't make it legal. It doesn't matter that are located outside of the US.
Holahayley56 is incorrect, it is always illegal to download copyrighted movies without the permission of the copyright holder; no exceptions.
BL4CKB3L7_F41RY is correct, but Canada is very much the exception, the UK and US both don't allow you to download. Also, most P2P programs(limewire included) automatically upload the file as you download it, and after you download it, breaking even Canada's laws.

it technically is illigal because you get free songs but everyone still does it anyways and i really wouldnt worry about getting caught. hope i helped
