I can't do what I want because of her.

Question Posted Friday May 11 2007, 7:36 am

Hey. I'm thirteen, female. Don't get me wrong, I despize labels more than anything in the world, and I try not to use them, but for this question, I think they're the only way someone could understand. I used to be really really really 'preppy'. And like I only got clothes from Abercrombie and Hollister, and I was literally afraid of hot topic. And I labeled everyone and I never wore black, always pink. Now, I really like the 'emo' stuff, rather than the 'prep' stuff. See, I tried just wearing what I like, and doing what I like, ect. But, then I got in a HUGE fight with like 4 people and all of them told me I was 'fake' and a 'poser' when I was just doing what I wanted, and they told me to be myself, when finally, I was. I don't know what to do anymore. I don't like preppy stuff anymore, but everytime put an 'emo' quote in my profile, my friend always copy&pastes it and asks me about it, like, 'who's that to' or something, you know, just giving me a hard time about it. She thinks she's so much 'smarter' than me becuas she's in 8th grade and I'm in 7th. I really don't know what to do anymore. Please help me, I do rate.

You are young and still searching for who you are. Just because you dress in different things or hang with different people does not make you a wannabe. You are simply just having a hard time finding the inner you. And as for your friend, just because she is one grade above you does not mean she is smarter and she knows more than you, just ignore her comments and when she can see you have no interest in what she says she'll soon get tired of talking when she knows you're not listening.>post a comment of some sort of feedback please!<

If people around you cannot accept the changes you're making, then they're lame & you shouldn't associate with them. I can see where they're coming from though. I'm not saying you're fake, or that you're a poser, but a change like that can be hard to get used to. They're still "coping" with the fact that you're no longer a stuck up princess.

Do what makes you happy though. If you wanna be emo, go ahead. And you can still shop at those stores you used to because they have a lot of cute things there. If anyone had to label me, they would probably call me scene, but to myself, I don't really have a label. I wear what I want & shop where I want.

But in all honestly, forget about them; do what you wanna do. Don't let people put you down or hold you back. If you do that, you're just letting them win. Stand up for yourself & don't take anyone's shit.

all of them told me I was 'fake' and a 'poser' <-- people like that are just stupid and are better off ignored. :] I dress however I want and in whatever I feel comfortable and to be honest I've never had anyone telling me I'm a fake or a poser (especially since one day I might be dressed 'goth' and the next 'preppy' but then I guess I look scary enough anyway so people probably say that behind my back - who knows). End of the day though I don't really care what anyone else thinks because their opinion means nothing to me. Just ignore people. If they call you a fake you can tell tham that too. Think what they want but to you they ain't nothing so their opinion means... nothing. :]
I hate using labels as well and don't really consider myself one or the other which is probably why things like that don't bother me. I dress how I want and how I feel comfortable. I mean seriously... when did you ever see a goth at a gym wearing a top and pants covered in chains or an emo wearing whatever they wear at a gym? It would look stupid!
As for this other smartass friend of yours, she'll soonbe knocked back into reality when she gets out in the real world if she keeps that 'I'm better than everyone' attitude so don't worry about that at all. I used to get the same thing as well (but it was from my ex) about quotes I'd put from songs and such on my MSN. She would be on my case all the time about how I'm probably talking about her until I just told her to get over herself because I do have other things to think about as well as just her (harsh but it's true).

Overall, jus ignore what people say about you and about how you dress. Dress however you want and if people even ask you what 'you are' you can tell them not the same as them, that's for sure. ;]
