what is the point of wearing a wife beater under your shirt?

i'm a girl, and i wear a wife beater or tank top under my shirt when i'm wearing sort of a thin or see-through shirt. i have this one light pink shirt that is almost completely see though, so i wear a white wife beater under it. guys wear them as under shirts. i also wear them over swimsuits sometimes when i'm on vacation.

there's several different reasons:
*to cover up a bright colored bra
*to layer shirts
*as an undershirt (guys mostly)
*to cover cleavage shown by low cut shirts
*to add color

Well, I layer them. So I'll wear one, and then wear my regular shirt.
I also wear them under all white shirts so that my shirts aren't see through.

I wear them under my shirt to layer with another shirt that is a button down or low cut. I also like them because i can just take off my shirt and be ready to play tennis or some other sport without having to have to change.
