Guys can be strange sometimes. They can have easy conversations with other guys and its seems like pulling teeth when it comes to talking girls (or the girl he likes). You can look at it 2 ways: negatively or positively. You can tell yourself its very immature of him & that he should stop acting like you have 'cooties' OR you can think of it as a compliment that you have the 'power' to have a guy act awkwardly around you because he likes you. If it really bothers though, you should bring it up over these phone conversation. It's obvious that you two can connect. Tell him how you feel - the best way to keep you guys on the same page is through communication. If something bothers you, hurts you - let him know. Talk it over. See what he has to say. If he's your boyfriend, I'm pretty sure he doesn't intend on making you feel like this.=0)

Are you two a new couple? Cos it could be that he's still very shy bout hanging around the girl he likes. The relationship is still at a very "raw" stage where everything has not thawned and warmed up yet.

So, do give him some time to get adjusted.

On the phone, of cos, everyone becomes more daring enough to be themselves and be more open. Because they don't have to deal with any face to face or any awkward situations.

You could talk to him face to face like what you two would normally talk during phone conversations. If his guy friend sat down and talked to him, then try to blend in into their conversations as well. It helps if you two first hang out in groups and talk together before slowly setting out on your own.

Ask him things that don't just require a yes/no or one-worded answer. Say something funny, make him laugh, make him feel comfortable. Don't treat him so much like a bf in school; treat him like a friend first.

Also, you could try asking him gently why is he so shy around u in school. Find an appropriate time to ask him tt though. It'll be good if you ask during your phone conversations since he is more at ease on the phone.
