I know this is sick, but I have a male cat and he has this problem with peeing everywhere, and my house smells like cat pee. It's absolutely sick, and I love the cat but it really makes me want to get rid of him. He stays in my basement/mudroom now, but what can I use to get rid of that sick smell?
I can't believe nobody has mentioned this by name yet: Nature's Miracle
It is a pet odor remover that works via enzymes.
You put it on and let it dry. The enzymes do their work while it completes the drying cycle.
Fantastic stuff.
As everyone else said, if he is going to be an indoor cat, he will have to be "fixed" if he hasn't been already, and it still may not eliminate the problem.
What you may have on your hand here is a cat that needs to stay outside. Obviously you can't keep him locked in one area forever, since that would be cruel.
Oh, and one more thing that is very helpful: Get yourself a UV light... a blacklight. Why? Because the urine will glow under a blacklight and you will be able to see where to put the Nature's Miracle enzyme odor killer. :-)
You know how it is... if the cat sprays in one place, you can't tell where it is because once you are in the room... EVERYTHING smells like cat spray! :-(

ANd for future refrence when he pees on something clean it right away and then do it again to make sure you got it all cause the smell seeps into everything. then maybe spray some frabreeze or soemthing.
Sabine answered Sunday May 6 2007, 1:46 am: Yes. You need an enzyme cleaner which you can find at Petsmart or a similar place. It wouldn't hurt to get one of those blacklight kits, also, which helps you find pee. He will continue to pee as long as he can smell his old pee. It's a territorial thing.
There are a few things that can be done for the cat. The first is neutering, if he hasn't already been neutered. However, it may not be as effective as it would have been if he had been a kitten when the procedure was performed. The second would be having plenty of clean litterboxes for any animals. For each cat you need one litterbox plus one to spare. Use unscented cat litter and scoop it daily and change weekly. Put the litterbox in a quiet, out-of-the way place where your cat can do his business in peace. Third, you can talk to your vet about these plug-in thingies (like glade plug-ins) that dispense calming cat pheremones. If that doesn't work, your last option to keep the cat might be something like a Prozac for kitties pill.
