I would like a pet

Question Posted Friday May 4 2007, 10:36 pm

I would like to get some sort of animal as a pet. The only thing is that my dad is allergic to furry animals, and my family is very busy, so we couldn't give the pet 24/7 care that often. so, what kind of pet should I get?

I disagree with the other person that posted.

Birds need attention, especially if you only have one. The only birds that wouldn't need to be let out/played with everyday are finches, and with those you'd NEED to get more than one. Otherwise it's just being cruel. D: ALSO -- many people are allergic to birds because of the large amounts of dust that come off of their wings!

Reptiles are fine since, quite frankly, they generally don't care about people and aren't affectionate. They are pretty cool pets though and can be really tame. If you have a reptile you still need to give it a large amount of space if it's spending most of it's time in it's cage. so keep in mind how LARGE the reptiles get and how LONG they live. For reptiles like iguanas and boas, they get very large and live for a very long time, so don't make a commitment you aren't willing to keep. Snakes will also have to be fed mice most likely, which I personally find distressing, so if you can't deal with that then don't get a snake (or get a very small snake that stays small and only needs to be fed large crickets).

Amphibians can also be fun pets (like frogs) but some can also live a long time, so once again, don't make a commitment you can't keep.

FISH -- probably the best pet because they are fairly easy to take care of. Consider getting a betta, since they are the easiest of all fish in my opinion. You can keep them in a bowl (a large bowl mind you!) and they are really pretty and entertaining (put a mirror up to one and they go into their aggressive posture). They only live a couple years to, so that's much less of a commitment. You do still have to feed them everyday and clean the bowl at least once a week.

That's all I can think of right now. ^_^;;;

fish - birds need attention a lot. and they tend to get reeli frustrated if they dont get it.
fish are the most common pets in the world and they come in ranges of different colours shapes and sizes :P
they are very easy to take care of... all you need to do is feed em once or twice a day!!
and theres also the cleaning out the fish tank part which will take long depending on how big your fish tank is.

*a walking stick is an insect which looks like a stick. they are EXREMELY easy to care for and dont smell. they are fascinating creatures to watch, but they are only for people who are not creeped out by insects. heres a picture of one:
