cut

Question Posted Wednesday May 2 2007, 4:48 pm

What should you do to make sure cuts (like a huge one amlost across the forehead) heal quickly without getting infected and doesn't leave a scar?

Oxygen or no oxygen? (bandage or no bandage)

Well, if it very big or deep you should get it checked out by a doctor so it can be stitched or stuck back if need be.
What you want to do is use something like surgical spirit or TCP to steralise it. This will hurt but will stop it getting infected. Then use an antiseptic anasthetic ointment (like savlon or germoline if you're from Britain or they have them wherever they are)
I would then cover up the cut until it begins to scab or heal, then the plaster should be removed to allow it to heal, keep using the antiseptic cream to moisturise it and this will hopefully reduce the scaring.
Take care, hope it heals well xxx

ok i dont know what you mean by a "huge" cut (it could mean that its deep, or that its just a slight scrape)

if its not deep and doesnt take that much space (its just a long narrow line) then i would let it breath, so no bandage. remember to wash it out with antibacterial soap and water. I would put some neosporine on it, or if your up to it some iodine (it will leave a dark brown stain on your forehead and wont wash off for as much as two days). i personally use iodine for my cuts and scrapes, but only in places where you cant see it.

If its a deep cut then i would put a bandage on it, and wash it out with hydrogen peroxide. if its bleeding continuously and/or you feel like you need stitches, i would go to the emergency room. where they can stitch you up and maybe give you some antibiotics.

hope i helped!

To the person below me, because the scratch or cut is huge, doesn't mean it's deep. It could just be long in length.

If your cut is deep/long, you may need stitches for it. So you should definitely see your doctor about that. If you don't want to wear a band-aid, then don't. Just make sure you put some neosporin on it.

There is no way to make your cut not give you a scar. There will be a definite scar. They're nothing to be ashamed of unless they're there for the wrong reasons.

if its HUGE then i say go to the doctors and check to see if you need stitches. and cover it with gauze and medical bandage tape to make sure bacteria doesnt get into it. neosporin, also.

hope i helped :]
