The moon How would you describe the moon's roatation around the earth and how it determines it's phases? I can't find it! bleck. thanks!

The moon orbits around the Earth about once per month. When it's configuration is:
o--sun
o--Earth
o--moon
The moon is full, because the sun is hitting the moon on the side facing the Earth. When it's configuration is:
o--sun
o--moon
o--Earth
The moon is new(black), because the sun is hitting the moon on the side not facing the Earth.
Keep in mind that the Earth and moon are on different geometric planes(they're at different heights), so the Earth's shadow rarely hits the moon, and vice-versa. Don't consider their shadows when you think about this. When the configuration is:
o--sun
o--Earth--o--moon
The sun is hitting half of the moon.
The moon's rotation is Synchronous; the same side always faces the Earth. We never see the opposite side. Take a look at this article for more info:
