13/f. Ok, so I have recently been having LOTS of trouble with my knees, and I'm only 13! A while ago, my right knee had been hurting alot so I had been trying to go easy when I put pressure on that knee. But as of last week, my left knee started to hurt. Now it has progressed, and both my knees hurt constantly when I'm walking or putting any pressure on them. I do dance, but only twice a week. I do poms...and ballet, tap, and jazz, but the 3 of those are combined in one class. I'm afraid I'm going to STOP having to dance, and that isn't an option with me, because I love to dance, and it's a big part of my life. Someone, please help me!
amandaaxoox answered Monday April 30 2007, 7:53 pm: hey, you sound alot like me! i also had these horrrrrible knee pains and it got in the way of me getting into more serious cheerleading and gymnastics. i ended up having this thing called oschten schlotters disease (or however you spell it lol) and it's where your kneecaps grow faster than all the other bones in your leg so it's kinda cramped and rubs against your other bones uncomfortably. there's no cure for it other than taking pain killers when it hurts and wearing maybe a brace for support .. and it doesn't stop until you stop growing. it actually is somewhat common, and it'll be the most active around your age when you are growing the most. of course you might not have this- you need to go to a doctor to find out what's really wrong. but just really you should stop whatever you're doing when it starts to hurt.. it'll only make things worse. good luck, and i know what it's like to have a passion for something so i honestly with all of my heart hope this doesnt ruin your dancing career! They will most likely refer you to a specialist or at the very least try some scans to see that there's no problems. The fact that it has progressed is an indication that whatever it is might be getting worse as you put more pressure onto your knee/s. Please arrange to see your doctor asap to make sure everything is okay.
