Runner

Question Posted Tuesday April 24 2007, 6:21 pm

15/F
at gym, we had to run 5 laps and i got out of breath.... i like running but i can only run so much, so i figured i should build up my stamina. i asked my mom if i could be one of those morning joggers, but she said no even when i told her i would stay on our street! if i run in the backyard, i have to dodge dog poop, trees, and my trampoline, plus i have to run in circles. i don't like running in circles.

i can't go to the high school track field everyday, and i can't join a gym or whatever.
how can i run everyday?
i really should do something to stay in shape, and i want to try running a little bit.
but where?

how can i convince my mom to let me run just on our street?

it would be so cool 'cause i have an ipod and i could use my moms athletic shoes.

what do i do

Ask your mom to go with you! Im sure she would love to spend quality time with you and that would be a great way for both of you to stay in shape and spend time at the same time. I dont know what you relationship is like with your mom but my mom always loves when I try to include her in things Im interested in.

you can always go to the park, if there's one close to where you live. i get why your mom would be protecting you; you cannot know your neighborhood enough, you know? anyway. try going to the park. if you have younger siblings, you can get them to go with you, too, and they can play there with your mom or something. running on the street isn't the only way you can run. find places where there are people around, so there's a lesser chance of anything bad happening.

hope i helped.

hey

just tell your mom not to worry! do you have a cell? just say you'll keep it with you. or, ask her to jog with you (just the first time!) until she feels that you are responsible enough and won't get kidnapped or whatever.

she's just being protective - when you talk to her, don't scream or argue. just CALMLY ask her, "mom, why won't you let me run just down our street? if you don't want me running in the morning, i can go after school when there are more people around in case something happens." also, if you take your dog, just tell her that if something happens your dog will start barking and will attract people's attention.

don't ever say, "but MOM! why NOT?!" and start raising your voice - if you want to be treated like a responsible adult who can have the priviledge to run around her own street, you should act like one :]

or, if those suggestions are totally out of the question, just ask her if you can buy a treadmill! yeah, they're expensive, but that way you can run during the wintertime too, when it's cold and you can't jog outside. and on rainy days.

if you very willingly ask her to jog with you the first time, she will feel a lot better about you not getting into trouble, you know? just once. - so you might really wanna consider that option.

maybe just not in the morning, after school maybe, and if you have a dog, then take the dog with you. if youre dog knows how to walk on a leash, then it should be no problem running with them. but if not then maybe try a couple of times with them. but yea, ask her why not after school. hope i helped<3
