as the other person said below me, about loosing 40lbs in a year being difficult, it isn't really. Think about it: 52 weeks in a year, right? if you loose 1lbs every week, you'll loose like, 52lbs by next April!
you don't want to loose weight TOO fast though. 1-5lbs a week is the normal weight loss limit anyway. So really, all you need to do is cut out junk foods, and i mean ALL junk foods. once a week, you can give yourself a treat or by some Fudge Stix at Hannaford (only 60 calories, if you're careful about nutrition info). They're a pretty good snack if you really want chocolate. haha.

want a basic diet plan menu for the day? try this:
breakfast- English Muffin with Melted Mozerrella Cheese, Watermelon, Green Tea (green tea has anti-oxidents, which help you loose weight).
lunch- turkey, provolon cheese, lettuce, and pickles on a weat wrap. apple, or carrots.
dinner- Healthy Choices are really good. They're under 400 calories.
snacks- snack around 3 times a day. but make sure they're low in calories. like i said, the fudge sticks are okay once in awhile, but try fruits and veggies too.
you might also want to snack on lettuce or salads. a head of lettuce only has 10 calories in them! thats hardly anything for something like that!

Basically, what you need to do is just watch what you're eating and ask yourself if its really good for you. Try eating at least 1600 calories a day..dont' eat any less then 1200.

as for excersising..try running, walking, riding yourbike, rollerskating, any physical activity for at least 20 minutes. the next 10 minutes, try doing situps, pushups, crunches, and lifting weights.

if you have any questions..send a message in my inbox, and i'll be sure to answer as best i can :)

I'm sorry to say this, but dropping 40 pounds within a year is extremely difficult. Not impossible, but you will need to have a lot of guts and will in order to accomplish such a feat.

You don't necessarily need to lose 40 pounds to fit into your dress. You can weight train a little bit. Now don't freak out when I say weight training. Weight training won't make you turn into one of those bulgy muscular women as long as you work in high repititions. That's how bodybuilders work out so that they get a cut look. Bodybuilders are not strong. They're just cut. You could weight train and be cut as well. You have to note that muscle mass will make you gain weight, but it will make you thinner. With the increased muscle mass, your muscles will use up more calories (which is what we want right?)

Typically, any exercises will help you lose weight, but it also depends on how rigorous and your workload as well. I suggest you do some long distance running. Get a good pair of running (it's important to run in running shoes or else you'll get injured!) shoes and start running for 10 minutes straight. Then build your way up to longer runs (30 minutes, an hour or maybe two. It all depends on what you want to do)and eventually you will burn up a lot of calories and carbs.

You should drink water and milk. If you really want to lose weight really fast, you're going to have to stop drinking soda too. Soda has a lot of artificial sugar in it which is really fattening. Diet sodas are bad for you as well. Soda is the worst thing to drink while you're on a diet. The food pyramid should also help guide you on what kind of foods you should eat and how much of it as well. Drinking cold water also helps burn calories as well.

If you want to go extreme on your diet, go look for some protein shakes that specifically builds lean muscles. They will help you lose weight and gain some lean muscles (not buldgy musles) but I can guarantee you that they won't taste good. You should mix water with the protein shake powder, not milk. If you drink milk at enormous amounts, you will lose weight slower.

That's all the advice I can give right now. I hope it helps though.
