shaving down there

Question Posted Monday April 16 2007, 6:58 am

female, 14.

a couple of days ago, i shaved down there. is there any harm to this? it's kind of red and bumpy. and i can't seem to get it so shaved, that it's soft. it's like stubby. how do i get it so it's soft?

oh, and when i go to the drs for a physical, and they look down there, would they say anything to me because i shave?

Theres no problem with doing this, the red bumps are just razor burn. In the shower, try shaving it under the water, and rub soap on it every now and then (dove soap makes it really soft). Your hair has different contours, so you have to shave up, down, and to each side. Usually, if the hair is longer before you shave it, its a cleaner shave. But if there is razor burn afterwards, pat it dry and put lotion on it.

It's perfectly fine to shave "down there". Just be sure to shave in the direction the hair grows, because you don't want painful ingrown hairs. It's going to be stubby if you shave, it would be smooth if you waxed but that would be pretty painful.

As for the doctor issue, your doctor won't say anything to you about shaving. It's up to you whether you shave or not, and I guarantee you that your doctor has had other women who shave too. It's no big deal. :]

um im not an expert, but i'll suggest not to shave all the hair off. if you do, ofcourse it will be stubby and it will get uncomfortable at times, and by the time it doesnt, you'll just grow more hair again. if you want it to be bare, i suggest getting a wax.
