As I'm sure you already know, start looking for a new job, ASAP. Next big thing you need to do is contact your creditors, the bank if you owe on your house, your credit cards, utility companies ... all of them. Explain what happened, work out a minimum payment plan, ask them to withhold turning you over to a collection agency for one month. It's not a long time so they should be willing to wait. However you need to be actually working somewhere by the second week to compensate for waiting on your first check. where you fired from your old job? laid off? or quit? if you were fired or laid off you may be eligible for unemployment which would help tide you over. contact your unemployment office. Also with a family to look after you may want to contact your local social services agency and get hooked up with a link card to buy groceries at no cost to you. If you have very young children you may also be eligiable for WIC. A group that also helps with groceries and diapers and things like that. If you dont find a job or dont think you will in time definately get to social servive office they have all kinds of programs to pay rent, utilities, and groceries, dont wait on this as all goverment processes take time that you dont have. If you lose your roof, or think your going to, sign up for section 8 housing. the wait list is long so you may need to stay with friends and family until an apartment or house becomes available. keep in mind if you have any money at all apply it to the necsessities, like your rent/house payment, groceries and heat if needed. all the other crap, phone, cable ect. are expendable. not to mention luxury bills can wait if this is a real emergency. It won't look good on your credit but better your credit than the roof over your family's head. Seriously good luck to you.

Another possible option is contacting churches, speaking with a local pastor or preist, (I have heard of christian churches helping those in your situation). you may also need to look into possibly selling/down grading some things. I wish I knew whether or not you owned or rented your living space. Anyhow, you have a car? I would sell it for as much as possible and then buy a much cheaper (but safe) car from your classafieds. cars being sold in the paper by individual owners are usually a lot cheaper, but still reliable. If you rent, use some of your car money to get you into a cheaper apartment. If you own your own home can you get a loan using it for collateral? have you also considered an auto loan? all you need for that is a car title but use it as a last resort i used to work there as a teenager, interest is outrageous and it will only buy you a few weeks. If you don't pay it back they'll take your car. Can you borrow from a relative? Please let me know what state you live in and a little more info regaurding your assets and I will keep trying to find new local information for you. Also are you male, or female, your age, number of children, and marital status, not to be nosey but some programs are more helpful to singles with kids and women with kids.

Now....a positive attitude! I know this is going to sound corny, but you can go far by being positive. Don't think losing your job was a total bad thing, think of it as a new opportunity to find a new, maybe more interesting job.

What was your old job? What qualifications did you have for that job? Could any of those qualifications be used in another similar job? check around your neighborhood to see if there are any Help Wanted signs up, or check in your newspaper to see if there are any jobs available.
